I think I've mentioned before how my in-laws are pack rats, right? They never throw anything out...ever. Last night FIL shows up with his van FULL of boxes of crap for us. The collection includes every toy, book, or piece of clothing DH used when he was a child. Have I mentioned that he's 38!!
Honestly, 95% of this stuff is junk that should have been thrown out 25-30 years ago. WTF are they thinking? I'm beside myself over how much crap we now have to get rid of. All of this stuff smells like must. I'd never let DS play with it; it's all a health hazzard. LOL
The tough thing is that DH will not say anything to his mom for fear of hurting her fealings. This will never end. Sigh. I know MIL thinks it's being helpful, but DH needs to tell her how to purge...seriously.
Here are the interesting pictures...and it's not even showing all of the boxes:
You see how chipped the paint is on this seat/stool?
Now this I just think is funny..... Vinny Barbarino puzzle... LOL
Re: Holy motherload of crap from in-laws PIP!
Welcome back Carter!!!??!?!??! That's a collectible!
Repeat after me, "Ebay is my friend".
WHOA!
Oprah just had a lady on -- the woman started buying stuff b/c she didn't know how to fill her time when her kids left the home. It was 10 times worse than this? But it all started somewhere. It came to a head when her oldest son wouldn't take his kids over there any longer. It was a very revealing episode.
WHOA!
My mother-in-law also has saved everything dh owned when he was a kid. She tries to give it to us one piece at a time, though, since my dh is very adamant about us not wanting it. We use storage as an excuse for the most part (though it's not an excuse - we really DON'T have the room for excess junk). I thought it was "sweet" for like a second, but she will talk for weeks about how much my ds "loves" the 30 year old slippers she put on him while she was babysitting, or whatever it was that week. She's very sneaky about giving it to him before we can say anything. And like that bench in your picture, a lot of the stuff is a freakin' hazard.
She is also a packrat and will buy me things like throw pillows and pot holders at tag sales. It just all goes straight to Goodwill or the Salvation Army now! I don't know if some people think it's rude, but if you knew my MIL, you'd understand.
