Daughter is allergic to cherries?

I started my 9 1/2 month daughter on pureed cherries on Friday. (I make all my own food) Since then she has developed a rash on her arms, legs and face. No other symptoms. Could the cherries be causing that? I only introduce a new food every three days. At first I was coughing it up to her being outside in the grass as that irritates my skin, but today it started prior to her being in the grass.

Also note that I think she is teething again...could that be a symptom of teething? She didn't have it before when she got her first two teeth.

I am just really racking my brain on this...any help would be awesome until I call the doctor first thing tomorrow.

Re: Daughter is allergic to cherries?

  • My friend has a strawberry allergy, and I think she gets a rash. I know it started when she was a kid, but I don't know exactly how young she was when it first showed up.
  • It does sound like a food allergy, but to be sure, you'll want to call the doc and have them look at the rash. Especially if there has been nothing new in her diet. ?Did she have runny stool as well? ?Sometimes that can be an indication. ?I made all of my own food too. ?You can read about food allergy reactions on this site which may help you decipher too! ?http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/index.htm
  • It could be that...I don't have kids but I'm allergic to cherries and have been for a long time.  I either break out in hives or if its really severe my throat feels like its closing up.

I would definitely talk to your doctor.  Good luck!

  • You can be allergic to anything. I've seen a few patients over the years with a documented berry allergy (and even one woman who was allergic to lettuce!) Hope DD is feeling better!
