Men who use emoticons - thoughts?

I'm fairly anti-emoticon.  You should be able to communicate without the need for pictures.  I have succumbed to accepting the occasional emoticon from various people.  However, I always find it odd when men use them.  There's no logic behind it, it just throws me.  Somehow, I've internally labeled them as "overly feminine" I suspect.  I wonder if that's because it is an emotion, in theory, and as so a historically feminine issue.  I'll need to think on that more.

Bottom line, do you use them?  Does DH use them?

  • well let me first start off by with a Stick out tongue This new feature on the nest is gonna drive you crazy. I think men should use them sparingly...or they seem to girly
  • I use them, dh uses them occasionally, some of my colleagues do in informal emails, both male and female... i don't have any specific preconception over a person regarding their typing style unless they appear illiterate.

in my mind, it's like the argument i have with a IRL friend regarding whether real men drive station wagons.  i don't gaf because it's so common/practical in my world for a guy to drive an Outback or something, she thinks it's emasculating.
