Am I the only football fan that just doesn't give a RIP about the NFL Draft?
I really.could.care.less.
I think it's a lot of hype over players that may or may not prove to be complete and total busts. A lot of carrying on about guys who are sometimes proving themselves at combines and not so much always on the playing field. I deal with high school sports quite a bit and I feel the same way about National Signing Day. I've just seen too many top tier prospects get to college and flop while a few of those kids who struggled to get ANYONE to pay attention to them, thrived.
My DH is a hardcore football fanatic (who until recently even planned on and prepared for a job in the NFL). He will literally watch both days of the draft nonstop--from the first pick to Mr. Irrelevant. I just can't stomach it.
What magical gene am I missing about the Draft? I think it's great to see who your team gets and hope for the best, but the constant hours of obsessing on our local sports radio shows or on ESPN drive me nuts.
I'm alone on this, aren't I? Sure feels like it sometimes, lol...
Re: I know this may be sacrilege on a sports board but...
I really enjoy the draft. Granted, I don't watch it from start to finish (we usually just watch on the first day - maybe the first couple of rounds - and then just follow the rest of the rounds). The reason I like it is because I am a big college football fan and I like to see where all of the players go. I am interested in who my team will draft but at the same time I like seeing who all the teams take. It is just interesting to me - like the bridge between college and NFL. DH and I have watched it every year we have been together but this year the VT spring game is on the same day so I will just be following what we miss on my phone.

I agree with you. I just don't care to watch the draft at all, and I certainly don't want to listen to hours and hours of people discussing what they think might happen.
I do care to know where some of the big names go, and I do want to know who "my" NFL teams draft. However, I'm totally okay with looking up that info after the draft is over.

The only thing I like about the draft is Mel Kiper basically being wrong about everything. LOL. It's super boring. My husband, who normally watches everything involving sports, doesn't really pay attention, either. He might watch the first round.
What's worse than the draft is the NFL combine. We know a guy who will watch it in its entirety. I just don't understand the appeal of watching football players do passing drills and 40 yard dashes for long periods of time.
I enjoy the draft from a strategy standpoint. I don't especially care WHO they draft, but I like seeing what positions they draft - are they going to pick up a running back or a linebacker? - that kind of stuff. I don't really care who it is necessarily, but I like seeing what position it is.
I usually lose interest after the first round or so though, haha.
I don't really care about the draft. I'm not a huge fan of the NFL (or pro sports in general) so I don't need to follow what team drafts who, and there's usually only a couple of guys from my area that are even in the draft so I just read the paper the next day to see how they did. The ?only time I was really vested was last year when my best friend's boyfriend was in the draft.
I'm more interested in knowing where the local high school students are going to be playing. National Signing Today is much more interesting to me.?
I usually watch the first few rounds and then catch up later to see everyone the Ravens drafted. I don't really follow college football, so I'm not really familiar with the players.
This year we'll be at the Ravens Spring Football Festival during the first part of the draft, so I'm sure they'll make big announcements about who we get.
DH and I watch for reasons that a PP mentioned - to see where the guys from our favorite colleges go, where the big names in college go, and to see who/how our NFL team picks.
We won't watch it in its entirity, but we will make a party out of it with a few friends.
I realize that when these guys are drafted, they may or may not do well at the professional level. However, that's partially why we watch the NFL seasons - to see how the new guys do or watch them develop as pro players.
