Do you think the view counter is right??

HOLY CRAP!!  In Amber&Tim's post about getting laid off, there are 97 views, and only 11 posts.  Do you think that's accurate??  If so, there must be a lot more lurkers on this board than we though!!?  That's a huge number of views compared to actual posts, don't you think!!?

Re: Do you think the view counter is right??

  • Yeah, that lurker thought makes me a little nervous.
  • not necessarily.  It's not counting unique users.  If you open the post 5 times, the number goes up by 5.  It's an ass-backwards system.
  • I don't think it's right at all. It seems to just count the number of times a post is opened and looked at.  I know for me personally, I often reopen a post just to read the responses even if I don't post or only post once.
  • I think it is probably right - the correct question is, "Do we really have a need to know how many times a post has been 'viewed'?"

If 9 people respond and each one goes into the post to read what the others have said, that could be 81 views right there.  (I know the logic isn't spot-on, but I have too much to do to figure it out - I just wanted to pass along the line of thinking...)  Wink
