Come in and chat

Where's everyone been? Were we all slammed with work on Monday? I know you're around because blogs have been updated and posts have been viewed.

So what's new? Is it warm where you are? What's occupying your mind at the moment?

Re: Come in and chat

  • It's always dead here on Mondays! I always assume that's the day that people actually work Smile  I actually had a very slow day yesterday, and look to be headed for another one today, but just didn't have anything post-worthy to say!

It is not warm where I am, but I want it to be!!! Today we're supposed to get closer to 60, and then on Friday we're supposed to break the 60 mark, and I am so ready!!!  Spring can't come soon enough.

Not too much is new, we're just really getting into cooking in advance and freezing (thanks bluedaisyus for telling me to google "once a month cooking" it opened up a whole new world!!!), and working on getting our back porch together.  My dear friend who lives in Pittsburgh is flying in this weekend to visit for a few days, and I really want the porch to be ready when she comes - I like having deadlines Wink

My new job is going well, I'm still "temp"status, but I have a feeling they'll be offering me "permanent" soon.  I want them to hurry up because they pay for the T passes of regular employees! I want my free pass! haha!  But it seems that most people temp for a couple months more or more before becomming regular, so I just have to be patient.

    What's new with you Janet?

  • See I'd see 60 as warm, but we've been coming off some 40s here.  Hopefully it will be nice soon and I can get the tank tops and flips flops out Cool

I'm impressed by your new cooking style.  I think I'd like to try something like that, but K's eatting habits are way different than mine.  Sometimes she skips dinner, other times she only wants crackers and cheese, and some days she makes entire meals. I just don't know if that habit would last long in our house.

Things here are going well.  K is starting to apply for professorships in other states.  Our future will be determined by where she gets a job and that's just an odd feeling.  As much as I miss home, NY isn't that bad.  Our marriage is valid, when we have kids she'll be on the birth certificate, and we have a nice house.  The thought of starting over is a bit overwhelming so I'm trying to avoid thinking about it too much.

Is K applying in a lot of different states?

  • We have been preparing for ttc.... I wanted to get certain pieces of furniture moved before I am put on bedrest b/c if I leave it to E.M. the baby will be graduating college before it happens.... so we moved the bookcase from where I am planning to put our rocking chair and ottoman over to the other side of the livingroom. We also sifted through oue 300 dvds.... and divided adult (r and unrated, or things we consider r) vs pg and pg 13 and then of course g.... I don't know why but my beloved dvd collection I am worried about. I mean I always knew I would have children I guess I just didn't think that the dvds would be a problem but once I started looking at the movies (Schindler's List, The Green Mile, Crash, Family Guy, Titanic....) there are so many with violence and sex and murder that I want to shelter my babies from and allow them to have their innocence as long as possible. E.M. agreed so we went through them all and now the absolute worst ones are on top and will migrate to a night stand if baby starts asking about them. The Disney ones and Pixar ones are closer to the bottom... still out of the reach of a crawling or toddling child but low enough to see.

Other then that Ive been peeing on sticks 1 to 2 times a day waiting to ovulate and E.M. has been crazy busy with work and school. So much so that anytime he is home I'm pretty much off the computer because I miss him like crazy.

...so in recap -- Notta really. lol.

  • Oh yea, weather.... um for the last two days its been drizzly and grey  with highs of 65 (brrrr) ...thankfully today and through the rest of the week we are looking at high's of about 95!!!

     Gotta love the desert!

We're trying to stick with MA, CA, Oregon, DC, Washington, Arizona, and then perhaps CT, VT, etc.  Right now the only apps we've started are for the west coast.  But she's also been looking at non-professor jobs in DC.

Question for ya Brit (and Sam and Elise if you're reading this) - since you've met K....do you think a donor that supposedly looks like this

    http://www.imnotobsessed.com/more/shia-labeouf-distr.jpg

could potential create a child that somewhat looks like K? My favorite potential donor at the moment supposedly resembles Shia.  I only have a baby picture of the donor and it shows him as light hair and fair.  But his profile now says dark wavy hair and Mediterranean skin tone.  He's Portuguese, but as you know that could mean any color of the rainbow! ;-)

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Well, Shia does have curly hair!  I think there are some similarities there.  Not sure what it is, but when I think of K and Shia side by side, I think maybe they could pass as family - though he's kind of pale, isn't he?  (those pics didn't show up for me, but I know who he is)

It's tough that the baby picture is so different from the adult description - we Portuguese folks certainly do come in many hues! Smile  But lots of people do change a lot from the time they're babies - my bother was born with blonde hair and blue eyes, now his eyes are more brown and his hair is light brown.

  • The pics dont work for me either and i dotn know who shia is (i tried googling but many different - interesting - things came up!).

The weather here is decent, sunny and hovering right around 60. good enough for me for the spring. I dont love hot hot weather so 60-70s is pretty much my ideal.

I was around for a bit yesterday but, like brit, i just didnt have anything post-worthy to contribute.  Work is very insane lately, but thats nothing out of the ordinary.  I was supposed to be headed to NH this morning but late yesterday evening I recieved a pardon by the judge and will instead be attending mediation by phone. Which is good, because my grandparents are visiting from New Mexico and we have dinner plans with my parents.  That and the attorney on the case is wackoo and I'd rather not deal with him in person.

Otherwise life is pretty much in the grind. foster prep takes up most of my free time and brain space. speaking of babies, A got a smiley on her OPK today which means in approx 28-29 days we'll have our first insem!  She gets so cutely excited when she gets the smiley faces - its adorable :)

  • ps - j, i know I owe you A's softball schedule. unfortunately it looks like all of the saturday games are JV (so she'll be there, but not coaching) and they are semi-painful to watch. If you are still interested, by all means, we can definitely go, but I also wanted to propose a picnic - if this weather ever cooperates!
  •  Here's Shia...

     image

CT - I'm down for a picnic or game.  K will be out of town the weekend of May 16th-17th so I was thinking if the weather was nice maybe I could head that way for the day. If you're around...or later this spring/summer....whenever, but I am making to CT this year! lol!

I think shia and K could pass for family.  not identical, but the resemblance is there.

And May 16/17 works for me! I'll ask A about her schedule and shoot you an email :)

  • I was on and off of here yesterday. I was playing catchup since our nanny was out sick Friday and I had to bring the kids in to work with me for half a day (needless to say I didn't get much done.) I still have a lot to do. Boo.

It is so cold here. It isn't supposed to break out of the 40s today or tomorrow and rain all day. Yuck. Thursday and Friday it is supposed to be in the 60s and sunny! WHOO HOO.

  • I lurked yesterday too but did not have anything to say.

supposed to be 40s/50s today then 60s toward the end of th week.  yesterday when it was supposed to rain, we got this sleety/snow stuff instead.  Gross.

Random question - anyone else watching In the Motherhood?  What do you think?

We're doing ok...trying to do lots of house projects before the next TTC round.  We bought paint last weekend at homo depot, which is very exciting.  My efforts to re-caulk gutters failed in a couple of spots...exciting times we have been having....

Just a word of caution about celebrity comparisons from the banks: Our former #1 donor was described as looking like Taye Diggs, but when we got his adult photos, we discovered he looks nothing like Taye Diggs! Not even close.

And: DC is a pretty good place for jobs right now. Who knows, maybe you'll end up here! :)

almost....we should be getting the results of A's CMV test today or tomorrow, then we can definitively pick the donor and order by the end of the week. the good news is, the bank says they can set up an account and ship in 2-3 days so we're still ahead of the game. now to figure out how many vials we should get....so many decisions!

That's great! Is the CMV test part of the bloodwork they do at the midwives?  C and I have talked a little about vial #s too, seems like with one insem a month, 3 or 4 would be good - trying to think positive Smile Then if he turns out to be a dud, you didn't invest too much.

  • I lurked a little bit, but I too had nothing to post. The weather in Oregon is actually very spring. A little rain but nice temerpature. Today I'm wearing a super cute skirt, and white top, and awesome sandle heels! It feels sooo good knowing that our amazing summer is on the way. Oregon (Portland) has the BEST summers!

Janet, what colleges did K apply to in Oregon? PSU? Oregon State? UofO?

Other than that, we've been doing NOTHING! Just getting back into the grind of things, and I'm definantly drinking the coffee in the mornings! Coffee

CT, and you and A are sooooooo close! :-) I could squeel for you too.

  • yup, the test was one of many the midwives will run.  We're also thinking 3 or 4 initially will be good...and maybe a couple of those can go towards a sibling - hows that for wishful thinking? ;)

  • Tried to reply to this before and failed.  Work is busy and being the week before vacation the kids are crazy and unfocused (not to mention their teacher!)

We have an ultrasound and drs appointment today.  I am very excited to see the baby and get some questions answered.  Accordinding to our bathroom scale I still am at the same weight so we will see what the Dr says.  I will post pictures on the blog tonight.

Just like Brit said it has been cold here.  I was stubborn yesterday and wore no coat and flip flops and froze my tush off but I looked cute.  I can not wait for some warm weather.  It was so cold in NH this past weekend...there was snow on the ground.  I can not wait for my vacation to PR next week.  I need me some fun in the sun!

J I think the hair and such would match with K.  Too bad there is no adult pic.

E what did you do that you needed to go to court?

  • i'm having a very busy week. my boss was on vacation all last week and is coming back thursday, so i've had quite a bit of extra to do--not to mention that i spent most of last week training staff, so my normal duties got pushed back a little bit.

on top of that i feel like crap. my sinuses are all congested and i feel light headed and just generally icky. i'm hoping it goes away soon. i've tried taking stuff, but so far it doesn't seem to be helping. it's been chilly and rainy here the past two days, which really just makes me want to go home and crawl into bed. i got stuck an hour and a half over last night, hopefully i can make it out on time today...

  • imagessg73:

E what did you do that you needed to go to court?

lol - its not what I did, its what my client did (or, allegedly did)! I manage lawsuits and negotiate settlements as part of my job so, unfortunately, i go to court a lot.

  • I have so much work to do and so little motivation. There's a year + to go on this living situaition and I find myself blowing Hours at work (to the point its affecting my productivity) looking at houses and jobs in NJ that we can't afford to entertain with my tuition...i need to get over it and stop.

    sigh.

as a sidebar, does anyone where how i could find a good RE/CNM/etc in Northern NJ who likes the gays? :) I have no idea where to start.

I don't have location specific info, but I found my midwives by searching "midwives boston."  Their website included info that made me think they were gay friendly.  It's a way to start looking!

honestly, i just asked.  there are about 3 well-known fertility clinics in CT (which i found out by googling and asking my local board) so i called them up and asked about thier experience with gay/lesbian patients.  Two said they have a number of lesbian clients and would welcome us, and the other said she'd have to get back to me (immediately crossed off the list).

  • I've been on here reading a lot lately, but not having time to say much since I'm swamped at work. It's been super busy and my boss has been in & out.

I just found out that one of my coworkers that I'm closest to (call her my "work mommy"!) has cancer. Luckily they caught it very early and its one of the easier to treat, higher survival rate ones... but still, very scary for her (she lost her father to cancer last year) and her husband (lost his first wife to cancer). She is being optimistic and using this as a kick in the butt to lose the extra weight she's been carrying around for years. We cleaned out all our bad snacks and stocked up on whole grains, fruits, and veggies. I told her that it is my goal to have her emerge from her surgury not only cancer-free, but healthier then she's been in years.

I'm still waiting for my period... so we are still in our (endless) loss cycle, and not trying until next cycle. Well last night, in the middle of the night, we ended up having some sleepy escapades! So sleepy, that I completely forgot about condoms. Since this cycle is not at all normal, I have absolutely no idea if I did or will ovulate. Now I'm really pissed at myself because what if I am ovulating right around this time? What if I get pregnant and lose it again because my body wasn't ready? I'm trying not to think about this stuff since I can't exactly change things or "take it back"... but I'm frustrated with myself and am crossing my fingers that I ovulated when I thought I did about two weeks ago and will hopefully get my period this week.

    That's about all for me...
