Love where you live?

My DH & I are trying to figure out where to live .... I'm not interested in living in the city and have always been partial to the NW burbs .... do you love where you live?  If so, please recommend!  We are looking at a more 'youthful' area if there is such a thing!! :)

Re: Love where you live?

  • I wouldn't say I LOVE where we live, but there are definitely a lot of great things about the area.  I live in Aurora on the Naperville border.  Naperville is pretty much a self-contained area as far as having its own downtown and things to do.  Sometimes I have to force myself to go into the city b/c it's too easy to find things to do out here.  If you are thinking of kids down the road it is also very family-friendly as well.

Where do you live in WI?  I am originally from New Berlin.

  • Totally off subject, but I think we went to the same high school.  Did you go to Hononegah?

  • We live in Bartlett and love it.
  • I grew up in the NW burbs, Barrington.  We couldn't afford to go back there, but if I had my choice now, I would choose Palatine (the south side which is in the Fremd school district, not the Palatine HS side) or Arlington Heights.  Palatine is building up their downtown area, and AH has a great little downtown area (both situated by the train stations)

  • I'm a little late on this, but DH and I live in Vernon Hills. There are more and more  young people there and lots to do. It's a lot more affordable but still wtih good schools, if you have kids.
  • Check out the suburbs that are along the Metra line.  They tend to have cute little downtowns and more going on in terms of restaurants, nightlife, etc.  Arlington Heights is great, as is Palatine.  Mt Prospect isn't bad, athough there's not as much to do.  I lived there for a few years, and it was a little too slow for us, but since then they have built it up some more.
