Farmers' markets?

Morning ladies!  I'm on the lookout for a good source for fresh fruits and veggies...my parents have a wonderful roadside market they frequent up in Atlanta, and I'd love to find something similar here.  H and I live in Baldwin Park, so I'm looking in the downtown / Winter Park areas.

Thanks!

Re: Farmers' markets?

  • There is a really nice market at Lake Eola on Sundays. I think it's from 10-4? Not a hundred percent on the time. Thats probably my favorite farmers market around.

  • Winter Park and Celebration also used to have farmer's markets.
    Hawaii
  • Every Saturday morning - Winter Park Farmers Market off of West New England a block or so from Park Ave.  It's wonderful

Whole Foods in Dr Phillips has a farmers market (same vendors as downtown) but its on Saturdays

There is one downtown Lake Eola on Sundays 10-4

    Celebration - Sunday from 9-3

    Winter Garden has one also.

  • Oh, yay!  I was going to ask this too.  I love farmer's markets!!  Good to know there are a few options.
  • I've been to both the Winter Park and Downtown Farmer's Markets and they are both pretty good, obviously better during the warmer months!  My BF and I argue over which is better...she says DT, I say WP :)

I actually heard that Baldwin Park had a smaller market on weekends, but not sure about the specifics.

Since I travel a fair amount for work, I don't have a ton of time to hit up the markets each week.  I do get an organic produce delivery to my house every other week from Orlando Organics, which I love.  They bring it right to my door and it's a seasonal mix of fruits and veggies that you can specify based on your personal tastes.  It's fun to be surprised what you'll get it and it's cheaper than buying organic at Publix or Whole Foods (~$20 every delivery).

    HTH!

Once we have a home of our own I'm thinking about joining Orlando Organics... do you like it? Any complaints?

My husband and I love the WP Farmers Market, but live in South Orlando and don't venture out that way too often!

There are also a two produce stores in the South Orlando area that offer amazing deals. Clemons is a mom and pop store off of curryford rd. and fresh field farms that is off of Michigan and East Compton St. Fresh Field Farms also has a meat market next to it, and you can get great deals... like six skinless boneless chicken breast for $3.50!!!

I can walk out of the produce store with 2-3 green bags full of produce for $20!!! It's fantastic!

  • Hey!  I've been getting the Harvest Blend Basics bag ($22.99) every other week for about 8 months.  That package is a good size for DH and I.  If we had a bigger family, we'd need a larger order but it works for us.  I don't have any complaints so far -- the produce is always fresh and a good variety.  The only minor whine is that we don't get lettuce every time, so I have to pick that up at the grocery since I tend to make a lot of salads.  Sometimes I'll get a veggie that I don't normally cook with, so it's interesting to incorporate everything into my meals but I kind of like the challenge. :)

Overall, I think it's great because of the relatively low price and front door delivery.  If you give it a try, let me know what you think!

  • Has anyone ever gone to the Winter Garden Farmer's Market?  I've been meaning to go, but haven't made it over there yet.  Just wondering what their selections are like.
  • The Winter Garden Farmer's Market is on the small side. They do have a couple of vegie stands - but not nearly as many as I was expecting. It can definitely be done in less than an hour.

I always work on Saturdays so I am looking forward to going to the Lake Eola one on Sunday sometime.

  • Well, crud.  I thought that the WG one would be bigger.  Thanks!
