Dishwasher cleaner

My dishwasher was smelling funny so after some research I put a cup full of vinegar, ran it and now it is perfect JIC anyone needed some info.

Re: Dishwasher cleaner

  • Just plan vinegar? do you pour it in the bottom or in the soap thingy?
  • Fill up a cup with vinegar and put it in the empty dishwasher. put the cup in the bottom rack so that when the water hits it it runs it everywhere
  • Okay! thanks we are doing some spring cleaning this weekend and I'm not looking forward to it. We are pulling everything out ie: dishwasher, stove, frig. We have been having a lot of Palmetto bugs in the house and we have a pest control service. Which I am canceling today because its not working.
  • Good luck hun! I clean everything with natural cleaners like vinegar baking soda and other stuff. It makes everything feel really clean and its healthy.
  • I plan on using beach, baking soda and vinegar. The house wasn't scrubbed top to bottom before we moved in so I'm sure that it is going to be pretty nasty. We had to move out of the other place we were living before the weekend so we pretty much closed on the house and moved in that night. It was crazy and I have been regretting it ever since.
  • always be careful with bleach, it tends to ruin certain things. Also, rubbing alcohol is good. Dr.Bronner's is great to clean the floors
  • That's a cool tip...thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for the tip.  I've heard of this before, but like pp, wasn't sure how to use it.  LOL

My sink has been smelling a bit funky, and I got some limes to shove down today.  I cut them up into wedges and run the disposal... kills the smell every time.

This sounds like it would make the whole kitchen smell good.

I do the same with lemons and it works like a charm every time. I remember when we were selling our house, I would go through bags and bags of lemons because it was an instant "make the house smell good" trick.

  • I put Lemon juice in water in a container- pop it in the micro and BAM I have a fresh smelling micro-Smile
  • Thanks ladies. I just learned 3 new things today!

Yes it was a dead monster stink. It was so gross and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from

LOL! Love that visual image that's now stuck in my head. Big Smile

  • we actually thought it was our dishwasher, so we threw it out and bought a brand new one! in no time, our new one was stinky too! lol. I'm going to try the vinegar next time the monster sneeks up
  • Alot of models dont let the runoff food go down the drain properly. Also, don't forget the water in soth florida has alot of iron in it, and that causes smells.
