Hey girl,

This is alliandchris.... not sure why it has me logged into my old screename...

I saw your post below about allergy meds. Did you have a chance to go to Dr. Posnock? Or did you try someone else? What did they prescribe? I take Veramyst nasal spray and Claritin everyday and it seems to work most days.?

Hope your head feels better soon!

Re: ***MariahandSteven***

  • Hey, Alli!  I went to Dr. Gross.  He prescribed a nasal spray...I think, Omnaris.  It's working fantastically, but I just have these stupid headaches.  It could be worse, though.  I should stop complaining about it! At least I can breathe, right? Smile

He told me he wants me to come back in closer to fall and then he'd put me on allergy shots to get me through the fall and winter, since I had severe reactions to the prick tests I was given for trees that irritate me in the fall/winter.

I'm SO glad I went though.  It was really great and eye-opening to see what I'm allergic to and know that those "colds" and "sinus infections" were actually my allergies going berzerk in the fall/winter.

What was so funny was that he asked me all these questions before my tests and I kind of downplayed everything because honestly I felt fine and hadn't been taking my Zyrtec for over a week and couldn't tell a difference.  So when he came in to see how I was doing with my tests, he was shocked.  He said, "I'm really surprised to see all of this.  You didn't complain very much".  I told him that I think it's because I've had allergies my whole life and I just thought it was normal to have all these reactions and that everyone had the same problems I did.

Apparently, I'm allergic to cats (already knew that), dust mites, mountain cedar (and other fall/winter trees), certain grass, and rag weed.  I don't know why I never got tested before.  Going to the allergist was awesome.

  • Also, thank you for asking!

  • No problem! Glad you are feeling somewhat better.?

I took allergy shots for about 2 years and honestly, it didn't help me hardly at all :( I really hope you have better luck with them.

Not sure if I told you about this or not, but last June I actually had a sinus out-patient surgery. They performed this new procedure called a sinuplasty where they put you to sleep and insert a small inflatable balloon thing into your sinuses and inflate it to open up the little bones in there to help your sinuses drain easier and to prevent sinus infections. Also, they corrected my deviated septum at the same time. I haven't had one sinus infection since! It's been a miracle.

Curlyworms on this board also had this done and told me about it. If you aren't better in a year or two, you might consider looking into it. Good luck :) ?

  • Thanks for the info!  I hadn't heard of that procedure.  I sincerely  hope I have luck with the shots, but we'll see.  I'm not even sure I'll be with this company by the time fall rolls around (at least I'm hoping to not be), so I'm not sure if I'll even have good enough insurance to cover the expense of the shots...
