This May Really Happen

I have been kind of quiet about this foster business lately. That mistake of a call really broke something inside me that I am not sure can be fixed. I have been afraid to share any good news fearing the same thing. I am forcing myself to type this, denial is not good either. Plus, if it does all go to sh*t, you always make me feel better.

We accepted placement of two girls, sisters. One is almost two and the other is an infant. We know the baby well, she visits often, I go to her appointments etc. We met the older one last weekend. She spent the night and will again this weekend. They are both adorable and we love them.

They both have had such a rough start and will need lots of therapy, services, love and consistency. It is so exciting but scary too. We want them to have everything and recover in every way possible.

It looks like the older child will make the move to us late next week. Her sister will follow in early May. It's kind of nice, although surreal, to think that we could have two children in this house by Mother's Day.

For now I am working on protecting my heart as best I can. I keep saying IF insetad of when and am only buying what we need right this second. I did start a list of what we really will need IF this happens. It's very looong, but fun to add to, just in case.

Okay, enough reality for now, back to being in denial.

  • I've been waiting for an update from you! And i'm thrilled with the news :)  Fostering is a bumpy road but i know there are wonderful things in store for you!

are the girls in respite care now or are they being transferred from another foster home?

  • So happy to see this good news! I totally understand your hesitancy to share, but it is true that we will be here to support you with whatever the outcome is-- hopefully it will be by commiserating with you about the challenges of two under two!

    Best wishes!!

They are being transferred from other homes. The baby had major drug exposure, so she was with someone who specializes in that. They want them to be together and the home where the older munchkin is can't handle two and isn't interested in long-term placement/adoption.

  • i know a couple of ss households who have fostered and who have found it both challenging and so rewarding. I think what you are doing is brave and awesome!

  • [[[[hugs]]]] Ive been praying for you! So glad to hear an update!!

  • glad to hear that things are progressing.  I am so glad to hear you are doing ok.  It sounds like things are looking up!

  • Thank you ladies!

We are getting excited, but not too excited. We asked to have the baby last night and she is swinging in her swing as I type. I wish I could post pics. She is heaven!

I refuse to let myself go to that place or use the "A" word, but we have been asked several times if we are open to adoption and given instructions for long-term placement Hmm..... We will see, I still have a hard time believing they will be here at all. LOL!

Please, if you wouldn't mind, say a little prayer, send some dust or good vibes our way. We really want this to work, even if it's just for a few months. Thanks.
