Hello,
I don't really post all too often, but I wanted to get some perspective from other nesties regarding these 2 cities.
I am currenlty living in WA state and we are in the process of moving back to the Orlando area, we use to live in Avalon, but we don't want to go back there b/c I have heard it has changed for the worst. We are deciding between Windermere and Oviedo, my husband pretty much works out of home and travels all over Orlando so that is not an issue.
I am a SAHM and I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old, I want to have things to do and my biggest concern is good schools. We lived there over 2 years ago so I know things have changed.
Any info would be sooo great!!!
Re: Windermere/Oviedo FL
My mom lives in Oviedo and likes it there. She is closer to Winter Park than downtown Oviedo. I am not to familiar with Windemere.
I do know that Oviedo has a community pool/aquatics center that is really fun for toddlers. I am not too familiar with the school system but they are 2 different counties so that could make a big difference in your decision.
I can vouch for Windermere - we live there. I am not sure about the schools - we don't have any children. It is a very nice community with a very small town feel. What area you are looking in Windermere? I can tell you a little more if I know the area you are interested in.
If you are looking at the downtown area it is very quaint with a few mom-pop businesses, a library, and a church. Most of the streets in the downtown area are dirt. They try to keep the visitors at a minimum down the residential streets. Speed is a huge factor in the town also. I see someone pulled over almost every time I drive through. It is very nice and ideal with beautiful homes.
If it is closer to Ocoee or Winter Garden there are more chain stores, restuarants, and open space. There are lots of gated communities (Summerport, Newbury Park, etc.) that fall under the Windermere address that are kind of out in the middle of nowhere. We like that aspect but some do not.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
They're both nice areas and I think your kids would be happy in either area. We moved to Winter Springs (which is practically in Oveido and right down the road from the previously-mentioned aquatics center) in part for the schools, as Seminole generally has better schools than Orange. Not that all Orange schools are bad (I went through public school in Orange County and did alright), but Seminole is a much smaller county and resources seem a little less stretched and quality more consistent. My husband also works from home, and since I am currently unemployed we couldn't really choose a locale based on my work sitch. We live across the street from Keeth Elementary School. We don't have kids yet, but the moms in the neighborhood seem extremely happy with it and it's highly rated. I've heard good things about the schools in Oviedo itself as well.
That said, from what I've seen Windermere is a NICE area. Most of it is newer than most of Oveido and it is definitely an affluent area, so the schools are likely good. I can't give details b/c we didn't consider that area. Nothing wrong with it, we just like it over here.
We live in southern Winter Garden near the Stoneybrook West community and right around the corner from Windermere. DH bought his house there about 4 years ago, and we just built a new construction house behind where we lived because we love it so much here. We were home searching in Windermere (but ultimately the taxes were way too high and the price of the homes we were looking at just didn't fit what we could afford), Ocoee, and Clermont.
We have no children, but I've heard that the school across from Stoneybrook West is really good. I think it's called Whispering Oaks? It's close to 429 and the Winter Garden shopping Village on Daniels.
Good luck finding a home that is perfect for your family!!!
