I was pretty shocked.  But he is getting older... I can understand his wanting to spend more time with the family and less time traveling.

I'll be the first to admit it...I'm glad to see him go.  He's been driving me crazy the past few years.  It seems like half of what he says should really go without saying...like the fact that in order to win during the second half, a team needs to get their offense going and score more points.  Gee...really?

Especially since he's afraid to fly, so he does all his traveling by RV!

I think he and Al make a great team. I hate the schmucks who do Monday Night Football on ESPN, especially Cornheiser.

Haha, exactly.  And it's funny because DH plays the Madden fball games on playstation and his commentary is just the same.  It's annoying, but I will still be a little sad to see him go.

He was always good for a laugh...we used to play drinking games when he was calling games - take a drink for every time he said "Brett Favre" (two drinks if the Packers weren't playing).

It worked well.

Thank goodness he's gone.  I cannot stand that man.  I put him right up there with *** Vitale on my level of hatred.

Eh I'm not really that upset about it. I like him much better than Al Michaels though. I can't stand him.

I absolutely love John Madden - of course part of it is the Raider fan in me, but he's still an icon. I'm really bummed. I wish I would have relished his last broadcast a little more

See, thats what I love him about him!  He says these random things and I look at DH and I am like, really??  Did he just say that?  But I found him amusing for that very same reason, ha!  At least if he wasnt going to say anything earth shattering he said things that were funny, albeit unintentionally. But, I also find a lot of the color commentators annoying, so at least Madded made me laugh! 

 Oh, and in reference to the pp who said his commentary on the Madden video game is dumb........yeah, it clearly is, but Chris Colllingsworth`s commentary annoys me even more.  OKAY, I understand that the first time you went to the pro bowl no one even knew who you were and they were ordering drinks from you.  I was complaining to DH how much CC annoys me, and he was like, you realize he wont reading from the Madden script when he is covering the games, right??      lol.
