Fence Question - long shot

We have a vinyl, semi private fence similar to this one but ours is taller.  Maybe 5 ft. tall.  I really wish we had a privacy fence that you couldn't see through.  Obviously, we don't want to replace it since it is perfectly fine, fairly new and would cost a lot of $ to do so. 

 

So, my questions is...does anyone know if you can get just the poles added into the fence to make it more of a privacy fence?  So, basically adding poles to the existing fence to make it less see through.

you have a couple of options, yes you could probably buy additonal pickets and add them, I dont' know how cost effective it would be, another option might be to use a 3/4" plywood, paint it white and screw it to your yard side, it might not be the look you want from your side of the fence however, it wouldn't look bad from the street side if you screwed it at the top and bottom rail, if that doesn't apeal to you, what about using a plank PVC product like Azek. you can buy them in 1/2 thick conventional lumber sizes and screw them to the fence, this would probably look nicer then the plywood from your side of the fence and from the street side it would simply fill in the gaps, no to mention you wouldn't have to paint it, although you could paint it if you wanted to.

I don't know.  Do you know the manufacturer of the fence in your yard.  I would call one of their authorized dealers and see if they have additional poles or some other type of product that is compatible with your fence.

From the picture it does not look like the picketts are far enough apart to add more.  Also it looks as if the pickets go through the rails and are not actually attached.  In that case you can not add more picketts.  However you may be able to replace the fence sections with privacy sections using the current posts, but it would have to be the same height.  That could be expensive as well.
