Emissions Standard in CA ?
My SIL wants to buy DH's car from him. We live in MN, and bought his car, a 2003 Monte Carlo in MN about 4 years ago. A co-worker mentioned that the vehicle would need to meet the CA Vehicle Emissions Standards in order to sell it to her. Does anyone know more about this? I've been googling for info for a while now, and am coming across really confusing charts and such.
TIA!
Re: Emissions Standard in CA ?
I think you would just have to take it to a Emission test station in CA and have it checked. ?I don't know if it's worth it to all of you to get the car to CA, get it tested, registered in CA, etc. And if it doesn't pass, there are all kinds of costs associated with getting it fixed up.
I would think it would be easier for her to just find a used car here in CA--car dealers are trying to GIVE cars away now....?
When I lived in Colorado and Iowa most of the new cars met California emissions standards. A 2003 isnt that old. Would they happen to still have the original price tag for the car? The one that lists all the features? That would indicate if it was up to California standards.
No matter what, you will have to get it smogged when it gets here and you have a very short time period in which to get the car registered in California.
Buy a used car out here! You wont have to deal with the lovely rust issue that midwest cars have.
