OMG! The other day, I noticed all these nasty little black bugs in our kitchen on the floor next to the base board. They looked like long, skinny ants with 3 segments to their bodies and wings. Then, last night, Haley started freaking out in her room and screaming for us to come in there and they were all over her carpet and bathroom floor. We had a pest control guy come out today and, sure enough, they are termites! Disgusting! They are coming Monday to take care of it, but it's costing us a whopping $900! The house was treated when it was built (about 4 years ago) but we did not keep the bond (contract) with them. Wish we would have...it costs $125/year ...then we wouldn't be shelling out all this money now. We are definitely going to continue year to year contracts with them now. It makes me so sick to see Caleb crawling on the floor next to termites!!! I keep vaccuming them up, but they come back. I can't wait to get rid of them for good! Blech!
Re: Gross! We have termites!
Ewwwh!!! So sorry you're having to go through this.
DEFINITELY keep the bond and always have the house checked for pests, more importantly the termites.
We have them come out frequently to check the house for pests (spray it) and the termite bond we've kept. I've always done that b/c in FL they are more prevelant w/the weather and all.
Good point! I'm going to ask them about that because the people who treated it the first time are the same people treating it again Monday. I think I remember him saying the chemicals are supposed to be effective for like 10 years or something? If so, then why did we get termites in only 4?!! Maybe we should have called another company...
Monica,
That may be true. However, I think you have to keep up with the bond to guarantee they won't show up. I'd ask anyways though and what you can do to prevent them from ever coming again.
I'd also have someone check your house (structurally) as those suckers can hide out in the inside of your house (interiors, like the foundation, wood structure, window sills, etc.) to be on the safe side.
GL and hope it takes care of them!!!

It really does stink that they showed up within four years of having the house treated and yes, since you didn't keep up the bond they won't pay for any damage that those termites caused...even so I think it's way too soon for you to have them and it looks like the company really didn't do such a great job of treating the house the first time. Do look for damage in other places though, pp was right, they can be in lots of places that you don't see. See if you have any of your old paperwork showing that they claim you should see no termites for ten years...good luck.
