Eat, Pray, Love

I noticed in smd's poll that a lot of you just read it.  I tried and couldn't stand it.  I just was not interested and something about her style grated on me.  Am I the only one?

On another note, her mom is in my MIL's book club in Litchfield.

Re: Eat, Pray, Love

  • I thought it was just ok...I finished it, but there were times when I thought "I could put this down and not pick it back up"...it wasn't a page-turner for me either.
  • It took me a very long time to actually get through the book. Maybe I am just stubborn and made myself finish it. There were a few parts that were pretty enlightening but overall I have to agree with you: it wasn't my favorite. I read it quite a while ago and don't remember all the details but I recall thinking her style was a bit annoying as well.

  • I'm having a tough time getting through it, and I'm still just in Rome.  But, it's my lunch-break book, so I'm only reading it in 30 minute chunks.  It came highly recommended, so I'm giving it a shot.
  • I'm on the brink of reading it. . .but I may reconsider if you didn't like it, Kate!  Help me decide - what are your 3 favorite books?
  • I personally hated this book.  The only portion of it that wasn't painful to read was the Italy section.  I barely made it through India and I gave up on the last section.  And I *never* quit a book.  I just couldn't take it anymore.  I heard someone describe her style of writing as whining.  I find this book to be a love it or hate it.
  • Mrs Bonj, I never quit books either, but I quit this one.

OctBride, are you kidding, 3 favorite books?  Man that is a toughy, let me think on it.

  • I was thinking about reading this too. I might reconsider
  • I feel like I am one of the few that LOVED the book. ?Many of my friends read it and disliked it. ?They said they just couldn't get into it. ?I felt like it was such a great escape. ?I think I just fell in love with the experience that she had...maybe it's because I am going through such a hard time right now myself. ?Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone in not liking it.?
  • It is a slow read - not a page turner - but I really did enjoy the book. I guess it depends on how you approach it. Friends of mine who've read it found her annoying and didn't see the point of the book. I, on the other hand, was able to relate - not to her exact experiences but to spending time in Italy (and experiences you go through when living in another country) and her journey with yoga. When my friend gave me the book she told me to read it slowly and enjoy it for the adventures and experiences and to take it as such.
  • While I was reading the Italy section, I thought I was really going to love it. When I got to the India section, I started having serious doubts, but pressed on. By the final section, I just really did not like the author anymore. I can't even put my finger on it, she just annoyed me. I did finish the book though, and my official review will be: "Eh"
  • I guess I'm in the minority, but I loved it.  I flew through it for some reason.  My Mom hated it and also stopped reading it.
