How do you organize your digital photos?

So far we have been organizing them by a year folder, then in that folder by occasion.  This is on our hard drive. 

 Now that we have Sawyer and are taking daily photos I am thinking I should organize them by date.  Right now I just have a Sawyer folder and all pics inside. 

 What do you do?

The software that came with our camera automatically lists the pictures by date taken, a separate folder for each date.  It's a nice feature, esp. for when I scrapbook, I know exactly what date the picture was taken.  I just try to regularly double-check to make sure the camera is still reading the correct date.

 

I also just bought an external hard drive to back up all our pictures.  I'd been putting it off and putting it off, but with all the pics of E. we take, I got so nervous about soemthing happening to the computer and losing them all.  I finally got it on Sunday.  Now to find the time to actually copy everything on to it!  :-)

We have Adobe photoshop elements on my computer and I LOVE IT.  Whenever I connect my camera card, it automcatically imports, fixes red eye etc.  And then it puts them in a folder by date.  The program came with my new computer so I don't know how much it costs.  But is also allows you to easily share via email or photoshows and it can even upload them onto a couple photo sites for you.

Our pics from before Ella are organized by year and I just download them into "Date taken" folders...now that we have Ella I have one huge Ella folder and need to reorganize that as well...I'm thinking I'll go in and break it down into our 2008 folder by month...

I usually do it by occasion too. ?If I took daily photos I might organize them by date too. ?BTW I think Sawyer looks just like you

Our camera also automatically organizes by date.  We have them all saved on our harddrive like that.  However we also backup all our pics on CD, and I've started making prints so that I can put them in albums (I like to be able to flip through them rather than just look at them online).  Kodakgallery.com has some good printing deals.

I just create a folder with the date that I uploaded the pictures, unless it's a specific event (xmas, easter, etc.)

In my "My Pictures" Folder I have folders with the years, then in each of those I just sort by the date. If it's something like birthday/holidays I'll do the date plus the holiday or birthday. I had to get an external harddrive for the amount of pictures I have on this computer(around 10,000) If you don't print pictures often, like me, I would defintely get one to back up all the pictures. Scott recently made a boo boo and we thought he erased the entire hard drive and I couldn't stop crying because of how many pictures were on there, luckily he didn't erase everything& my pictures were still there. The next day we bought an external hard drive lol

Pretty much my month/special occasion and then by subject matter on the hard drive or jump drive.

I have folders by year and then within those folders I have a monthly folder.  I find this is the easiest way.  In each monthly folder - I sort then in chronological order.  I have two cameras I use (actually three now) so I like to be able to sort them in order.

We organize by date and/or event.  I don't understand why everyone has external hardrives for back-ups.  I burn everything to CD and get it off my computer! I also put important stuff on Shutterfly.  Worset-case scenario I can get a hard copy.
