How would you pronounce this baby name...
LEIGHTON
and... would you think "boy" or girl" Just curious, as a friend of mine had a baby today, and that is the name.
Also, what are your thoughts on this name?
Re: How would you pronounce this baby name...
Pronunciation: Lay-Ton
I know a guy that is my age named Leighton, but I could see people naming a girl that these days.
I'm indifferent towards the name.
Lay-ton
Boy
I like it.
Lay-ton
for some reason I think girl
I like it too.... it IS a boy (I TOTALLY thought girl when I see it, especially with that spelling) but they are pronouncing it "LEE- ton"
I just thought that was... different.
this + I know a guy w/ this name.
I'm thinking she is going to have to do a lot of correcting people when they read her name. That, or decide she wants to go by Lay-ton.
I think the Lee-ton pronunciation is weird.
Edit: He, not she.
ah-ha! this must be why I am thinking girl when I see this name
Lay-ton
I hard a hard time deciding, but I was leaning towards girl.
Name is NMS, but it's not the worst I have ever heard.
I think they will have a problem with the pronunciation.
I was thinking lay-ton and girl also. I thought girl bc of the Leigh part looks feminine to me.
But a name is so personal - to each their own! Maybe they'll call him Lee or something?
Yes... I too think they'll have to correct a lot of ppl on pronunciation... I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one that thought "LAYTON".
Oh... and wanna know the middle name ?
Melchizedek
yes. Seriously.
I think that is the plan, Carla.
I thought Lay-ton and the sound sounds boyish to me, but girly for the Leigh spelling which is feminine vs. Lee.
So, if they plan to call him Lee...will it be spelled the masculine way (Lee) or as Leigh (the feminine way which is how his name is spelled)?
that was on my name list, but said lay-ton, not lee-ton. and it was on the girl list. but i decided i wasn't a huge enough fan, and DH totally vetoed it.?
i think they are going to have some corrections constantly if they say it leeton, but whatever. her baby- ?her name choice.?
now that middle name...i'm not even sure how you say that. was that a maiden name of someone, or something??
ditto
ditto
No... it's a very obscure reference; I think he's only mentioed twice in the whole Bible, and only in the O.T.
In fact, I didn't even know that, and had to "research" him....
You mean you aren't sporting little "BATHSHEBA C." in your bellly???
I have a friend with a Daughter with that name and spelt the same way.?
?
Layton - Boy I have known a Layton (he was cute too!)
?Leighton - GIRL!??
I agree it's strange to use the Leigh spelling for a boy's name. Why not just keep things simple and spell it Leeton? Or keep Leighton but pronounce it Lay-ton.
I think it's a nice name. I wish my last name didn't end with "in" because all of the "on" names sound crappy with it.
