I'm back, with my birth story!

I've finally got a couple of minutes and two hands to sit down and use the computer!
I'm really enjoying my new little girl.  She's just so sweet, and she's changed our lives beyond anything we ever imagined!

So last Thursday my water broke around 6:30 am.  I waited around the house to call my OB when they opened and I wanted to get a couple things done here at home.  I wasn't experiencing any real contractions, just some period like cramping.  We finally made it to the hospital around 10:30, they checked my fluid, affirmed it was amniotic and hooked me up to an IV.  They did the internal and I was 1 cm, 80-90% effaced.  I was happy that I had made at least a little progress!  They also started me on pitocin to get some real contractions going.  With in an hour, I started feeling them.  They were tolerable, I was more bothered by the constant leakage of fluid!  Each hour the nurse came to check on me, she would up the dosage of pitocin.  She told me that she wouldn't do another internal till I was in "real pain".  She said I looked too comfortable. ;)  Around 2pm she had already upped the pitocin a few times and they were starting to hurt...but I used lamaze breathing to get through them.  DH was amazing.  He coached me right through each one.  Poor guy even discovered AND cleaned up my mucous plug when I had got up to use the restroom.  He made me fall in love all over again with how attentive and patient he was.  Around 4pm the contractions were coming at a steady minute and a half apart and I was no longer able to talk through them or even open my eyes.  The nurse came in mid contraction, when it was over I looked at her and asked her if I still looked comfortable.  At that point I was fully efaced, and 4cm.  She asked if I'd like the epidural now, because if I did, we needed to hurry so she could grab the Dr. before he went into a c-section.  The anesthesioligist was there in less than 15 minutes.  15 minutes later, I was numb from the ribs down.  All in all, I suffered from pain for less than an hour and I never said a single F bomb. ;)
Less than 4 hours later, I asked the nurse to check me again, I wasn't feeling any pressure ( I wasn't feeling anything!) but I was curious to see how far I'd progressed.  We were totally blown away when she said 9 centimeters with just a lip.  She went to alert the doc, and when she came back we started pushing.  I had a hard time feeling anything, so we pushed for almost 2 hours.  The dr. ended up doing a midline episiotomy and used the vaccuum just a tiny bit to help her along.
Charlotte Marie was born at 9:39 pm.  She weighed 7 lbs 3oz and measured 18.5" long.
Nothing, no matter what people tell you, prepares you for that moment that your child enters the world.  It's utterly indescribable.   I think I'll happily relive that moment for the rest of my life.
We're doing well...having some issues breastfeeding, but thankfully the hospital really strives to help.  They have a walk-in clinic that helps with any BF issues, we're going a couple times a week to monitor her weight.  Charlotte is a lazy eater, she falls asleep at the breast almost instantly.   We're supplementing with pumped breast milk.  I also have really flat nipples, so I'm having to use a shield.  The first nights at home were really rough because my milk hadn't come in and she was so frustrated trying to eat.  Things are slowly getting better, and her weight is coming back up.
I'm just over the moon for my little one, and our new little family.
