Hey ladies! I need some help brain storming. My boss is retiring from education after 20 years with IU13. She was a teacher in a few different states before she even came to the IU.
We have a celebration at the end of each year for our students graduating from our program and our team wanted to present her with something special because she is just an awesome person that has touched so many kids' lives.
I checked out Things Remembered, but nothing was jumping out at me. We had thought about getting her a glass airplane and having it engraved because she always says we're "building the airplane while we're flying it". The cheapest ones I can find are over $200!
I know there are QUITE a few teachers on this board sooooo I was wondering if anyone could help out with some ideas.
Thanks ladies!
Re: Gift ideas for retiring boss
I'm not sure the age of the kids in the program you're referring to, but what about doing something where everyone signs or wishes her well? Two years ago, I got a gift that had a chinese proverb about education framed--and then each of the kids put their thumb-print on the mat portion, decorated, the print like themself, and wrote me well-wishes. You could then add in something that she'd like to do to start off her retirement--gift card for a hobby, spa, favorite restaurant, B&B etc. I know that when I retire from teaching I'm just going to want to relax! ; )
And that frame still sits on my desk today and I look at those little thumb-prints and well wishes and it always brings good memories!
