Home Improvement Projects

What was your first home improvement project?   Did you succeed?

Re: Home Improvement Projects

  • Hmmmm, I think our first home improvement project was expanding our patio.  That was professionally done though.  I think the first we tackled ourselves was finishing our basement.  We're still trying to finish our bathroom and bar area, but the rest of its done.  I think we succeeded.  Nothing has broken or fallen on us yet.  Wink
  • our first?? probably finishing our basement. ?I'd call it a success! ?it was a LONG process but it's done... since then, we've put on a deck, did all the landscaping and put in wood laminate flooring. ?the only other thing we'd like to do is put tile in our bathrooms (currently vinyl), but i'm in "I want a new house mode" so i'm not sure we'll be doing much else to this house...we'll see. ?it's pretty set as it is.?

  • Our first project was the bathroom in the basement.  It was 1/3 grungy orange shag, 1/3 brown peeling linoleum, and 1/3 bare concrete. It was so creepy I didn't actually go in there until after we had bought the house and moved in.  The drywall was rotting, which I had already ascertained from the doorway so we had to rip out just about everything, drywall and tile the floor.  But, we were so successful with it that we decided to do the kitchen this year.  We got the cabinets and just bought granite countertops yesterday from a remnant sale in Fenton.  It's going to be amazing.  Especially because I'm surrounded by super handy men and I'll be outside while they're ripping out my 45 year old kitchen.  Completely oblivious to the carnage.
  • We closed and moved into our house 2 weeks after getting married. Our very first improvement was putting in an eastern cedar privacy fence for our dog. We did that within a month of moving in. The next was adding soffit and facia and the 3rd was having the whole house pro painted (it was all white) and putting in ceramic tile in the bathrooms, adding new vanities and new light fixtures.

***We hired professionals for everything though***
