Hilton vs. Stoweflake vs. The Essex

We are looking at having a reception at either of these 3 places, and wondering if anyone had any experience with either and/or opinions to help us decide? Thanks

Re: Hilton vs. Stoweflake vs. The Essex

  • I don't have specific opinions on the hotels, but I would much rather have a wedding in Stowe than the other places I guess. We are a very outdoorsy family and my family had a great time in Stowe on our wedding weekend. Good luck!

  • Hello,

We were married in Stowe in March and had a fantastic wedding.  The reason I logged back on was to offer my advice about where not to get married.  I highly do not recommend Stoweflake.  We originally booked Stoweflake and felt as though we received an "our way or the highway" approach. The people at Stoweflake were type A and it appeared to be a business meeting forum, banquet and wedding factory.  We gave them three months and fourteen days notice to cancel, no deposit were returned, they threatened to sue for the remaining money and would not return our guests room deposits.  Keeping our guests rooms deposists was the over top.  There was another wedding at the Stoweflake that weekend and I would be surprised with 3.5 months notice the rooms could have been rented.  When our guests called for an explanation why there deposits were not being returned they were treated very poorly.

We moved to Stowe Mountain Lodge and could not have been happier.  The level of service, atmosphere and the entire process was night and day, complete oposite than Stoweflake.   The event planner Heidi Michels is extremely nice and the Spa directory Maggy is fantastic. Everyone was very happy with our entire event and we have zero complaints or reservations about highly recommending Stowe Mountain Lodge.

Originally we were concerned about the price difference between the two resorts.  Stowe Mountain Lodge was very accomodating and any difference was well worth it.  Imagine the amazing view of the sun setting from the room at Stowe Mountain Lodge which has a terrace with a gas fireplace and Mount Mansfield behind.

The view from Stoweflake is a parking lot, upstairs and I am not sure if the basement room has any view.  The garden is nice.  When we visited the fountain was not working and there were water damaged ceiling tiles.  The resorts are totally opposite.  One was renovated many years ago and one is bran new.

We had an incrediable wedding in Stowe and the initial booking of the reception was the only hick up.

If you have not chosen a photographer I highly recommend Dairia Bishop.  She and her husband Andy are fantastic.  Check out her website which speaks for itself!  dariabishop.com

Our rehearsal was at Michael on the Hill and it was great as well.  Laura, Jesse and Michael were excellent to work with and the food is delicious.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
