Trip to LA - help

Hi! You probably get this post often and if the nest had better search capabilities I wouldn;t have to make this post so sorry in advance!

I want to plan a 4 - 5 day trip to LA with the hubby. Never been and want to do the whole tourist thing - tour warner bros studio, see celeb houses, rodeo drive etc.

Can you reccomend where to stay.  Some people have said Santa Monica to have access to the beach.  I understand we will need to rent a car. I would love to stay on the beach and have access to the things above by day so long as there are places to eat, go to at night where the hotel is.  Thanks!

  • Can't give you any recs on hotels, but just try not to find yourself on any freeways or in downtown Hollywood between 5-7pm... you will be hating life. Venice is always a fun place to check out, some amazing houses on the boardwalk (I prefer it over Santa Monica). But Santa Monica has some nice shops/restaurants on the 3rd street Promenade. If you want to see some mind blowing houses, cruise up the hollywood hills around Laurel Canyon... house after house of disgustingly amazing architecture and views... we like to do that for fun sometimes. You can google celeb's addresses before you get here, and take a gps with you.
  • A few tips:

1-  You'll need a car.  Parking at many hotels is pricey so figure that into your budget.

2-  Decide where you want to be at night.....dinners on the beach or out at clubs.  This will help you decide where your "home base" should be for the four days.

Have fun!  I love travel planning!!

  • If you think you might like to spend some time kicking back, I might suggest looking for a house in one of the beach communities. You will pay a bit more, but I think it really adds to the relaxation part of the trip.
  • If you want to stay near the main sites in hollywood, my MIL stayed at a place called the Orchid Suites right by the Hollywood & Highlands complex. It was a mini 1br and she had access to everything easily. Not sure how nice the rooms are, but she enjoyed her stay.
  • Give me the top 5 things you want to do and how much you want to sppend on a hotel.
