parenting QOTD

So one of my guilty pleasures is catching some of Bringing Home Baby in the morning while I eat breakfast - just to look at cute babies basically. My partner has been watching some here and there with me as she gets ready - there is something we can't figure out....why is the woman (these are all het relationships that we have seen) always riding in the back seat with the baby while the husband/boyfriend drives?  I mean it's not like a long, including-nursing road trip home from the hospital....thoughts?

Re: parenting QOTD

  • probably just being protective and excited.  when we brought lilly (our dog) home, i sat in the back with her.  Also, is the camera man in the front seat? I've never watched the show so i'm not sure.
  • Ditto CT - on any reality show the camera man/woman sits in the front.  Also, I think new moms have a tendency to sit in the back on the way home from the hospital out of protection/concern.

  • ah - the cameraperson - I never thought about that. And excitement and protection make sense...hope I didn't sound like a jerk asking.  And since I asked...is it common to do that on an extended basis? I see moms in the back and dads in the front NOT on the way home from the hospital too.  Just wondering....
  • I don't know.  It might depend on the child and how he/she does in the car.  I imagine if I had a baby that cried in the car alot I would tend to sit in the back.  Otherwise the crying would drive DW insane and then I'd have two p!ssy babies! :-)

  • I agree with PP. But I didn't sit back there with the kids on the way home from the hospital - I would have had to squeeze in between the seats in L's truck and that wasn't happening post c-section.

The only time I did ride back there with them (once we got the van) was if someone was super cranky or needed a bottle en route somewhere. I like sitting up front. Smile

  • I agree, camera person and being protective of the new baby. I enjoy watching that show too.
