Re: Got laid off from job...

  • The job boards are basically useless right now due to the increase in job seekers.  That said, they're still worth a look.

Check indeed.com, and also industry-specific boards.  What type of role are you looking for?

Edited to add: sorry about your job loss.  I've been on the hunt since September, so I forget sometimes what the newness of it feels like!  You're definitely not alone right now...

  • Where are you located>

I do not know what type of work you are doing but they are hiring in New Lenox, IL . I believe its central foods, its a warehouse located in Cherry Park, and its opening up May 1st. I heard over 1000 people applied but when I called the other day they said they are still hiring. Hope this helps :)

  • I agree that posting resumes on job boards probably won't do the trick and networking/more proactive searching might have more success. Have you joined an association in your field, gone to your college's career office, joined LinkedIn groups related to your field, and called recruiters?

Good luck finding a job! Keep us posted, I am sure you will find something great soon!

  • We have been actively hiring and still have openings in a number of areas:

     Anaylst

    IT Project Manager

    Sales

    Java Developer

    QA Analyst

     Customer Service

    Tech Support

We actually do recruit through Monster and Dice as well as through University Career Centers.

The best thing to do is actively apply for positions.  Do some research ont he companies that you are applying to and write a cover letter that actually explains why you chose them and how you feel you could be an asset to the company.

I have had to sift through 450 resumes for a senior level position.  Now, more than ever, a solid, concise resume and a good cover letter are important.  So many of them look exactly the same....find a way to stand out or appeal to the recruiter on a more personal level.

Also, identify some recruiting/placement firms in the area and work with them.  They may be able to help you fins something.
