Ok, so this is a personal question but I need to decide what type of birth control to start.
I go back to my OB next week for my 6 week checkup after having Ava. I hated being on bc pills. They made me feel crazy. I have tried alot of different brands.
I wanted to do the Mirena but I am scared b/c I haven't heard alot about it.
What do you use/recommend?
Re: Need some help deciding
Honestly if it wasn't for having endometriosis I would stick with NFP after I have this baby...but bc pills is what slows down the growth of the endo so unfortunately my decision is made...I took Yaz too before and like Wendy I didn't really have too bad of side affects but I still don't like having it in my system.
As for the Mirena I have heard good and bad. I have heard that it can move around...one of my friends had hers move out of place and she wound up with an unexpected pregnancy 3 months after her first baby was born. But then I have heard some people absolutely love it.

If that's an option for you, there are a lot of ladies here on the board that use it if you have any questions!
I am currently TTC, and used Yaz for 2 years. However, I have several friends and 2/3 sisters that use Mirena and they absolutely love it. The only complaint was from my older sister who had not had any children, so it was really painful when they had to dialate her cervix because she had never had it done before.
Good Luck!

I was on the pill for years - different forms, with the most recent being Yaz - and I hated it. I started out ok on Yaz, but I ended up getting horrible cramps and headaches.
I got the Paragaurd IUD, which is the one that doesn't have hormones. My OB-GYN said that's the one I had to get, since I haven't had kids yet. I can't even put in to words how much I love it. I had some spotting issues at first (which I understand is common with Mirena too from my friends that have it), but after about 6 weeks I was great. My flow got heavier, but that's the only 'bad' side effect I have, and it's not anything unmangable. I stopped getting cramps, stopped getting bloated, stopped having PMS...it's wonderful. If you want a non-hormonal option, I'd seriously consider it. I love not having to worry about it.
I've tried just about all of them over the years....different pills, the Depo Provera shot, the patch (Ortho Evra), the ring (NuvaRing)... I hated them all except for the ring. If you can get over the thought that there is something inside of you for 3 weeks at a time, it really isn't bad at all. It didn't make me gain weight or moody like all of the others did.
The Depo shot was the worst for me. I got 2 shots (it lasts 3 months at a time) and I bled for about 8 months straight!
I used the Mirena for two years and I had no problems with it. I wish I could have gotten it again but instead I the nuva ring. I chose it because I hate pills and I'm just not good with them.
I was also on Depo for almost 2 years without a problem until for some reason I got pregnant with my daughter. I wish I could be on it again because it didn't give me periods but I think I would rather have a period then have the chace of getting pregnant again!
