vacation ideas

We just had to turn in our planned vacation time at work, which has made me think about where we are going to go this year.  We are on the "nice vacation" (involves flying somewhere, out of country) one year and "relaxing vacation" (cheap, more local) the next year.

This year is the relaxing (aka cheap) vacation.  Any ideas for a cheap vacation? I was thinking of renting the same place we rented a couple of years ago in Maine but it would be nice to go somewhere new.

Re: vacation ideas

  • What about somewhere in the Outer Banks...now THAT would be a relaxing vacation!  Great beaches, great restaurants, and you could do as much as you wanted to keep busy, or do nothing at all and just enjoy your time there.

I'm not sure what time of year you're planning on vacationing, but if you're looking for something more in the Fall I highly recommend the Gatlinburg area in TN.  You can rent cabins pretty inexpensively and some of them have some great perks: hot tub, pool table, jacuzzi tub, fireplace, etc.  That area in the Fall is just beautiful, we spent hours just gazing at the trees while soaking in the hot tub!  So nice!

  • DH and I went to the Poconos last summer for a few days.  We checked out the waterfalls and did some shopping, played mini golf, hung out by the pool........very relaxing.  There really is alot to do within a 2 hour drive.

We also considered a trip to Williamsburg, Va.  DH has never been there and I haven't been there since middle school.  There seemed to be alot to see and do there.
