it's wednesday!

time for pcp/ttc/atp. anything new and exciting happening?

Re: it's wednesday!

  • Well we picked a donor Smile  The process was actually a bit easier than I thought it would be.  K was really easy going and we never had to have lengthy debates about any of the guys.  The funny thing is that the donor we picked was actually the first donor I ever looked at  - like a year ago.  I remember pulling up his baby picture and thinking he was adorable.  In the end we picked him over others because his picture made K smile.  Such a simple reason, but perfect for us.

So now it's just a matter of going for it.  My fertility drugs will be waiting in a Fed-Ex box on my front porch when I arrive home.  That's really weird to me. Baby making drugs at my house - very very weird.

I wasn't going to post this and I'm not sure how much I'll post going forward.  I love the support I get here, but I'm also trying hard not to be consumed by BOTB.  It's the one thing K has asked of me - to please try and maintain a 'normal' life over the next few months as she finishes her dissertation.

  • we have our first appointment with the ob tomorrow. it's a bit weird going in for the "first" visit having already had an u/s with the re. i know we need to print out the donor's medical history to bring with us, and make sure we have the dates to give her (cd1 and insem). anything else i might not be thinking of?

also, i really have no idea what kinds of questions we need to be asking. i have some general ones about how she does things and what we can do/expect in terms of birth plan, but is there anything specific that we should ask about?

  • J - its such an exciting and monumentous time, even if you dont get "consumed", its still normal to think about it and want to talk about it so please know you'll always get support here; regardless of how much, or how little, you want to share :)

Blue - hope the visit goes well and its a good fit!

I think we may have ordered sperm....or at least set up an account at the bank....i'm not exactly sure b/c the midwives were supposed to sign and fax one form, I signed and faxed another, and A was supposed to sign and fax a few more - so if they all made it to intended destinations with appropriate signatures, we are sperm owners.  good grief the process is complicated.  but, we certainly feeling more and more hopeful about may (perhaps too hopeful) - Andrea told me yesterday that she's really excited and from other comments she's made its as if she's expecting to be pg from the first cycle.  I remind her that its statistically improbable....but i also dont want to discourage the effects of positive thinking.....its a tough tightrope to walk Confused

Things are progressing rapidly on the foster front - we have all the essentials in the nursery set. Last night we put up 3 more smoke detectors, 2 carbon monoxide detectors, and placed 3 extinguishers around the house...i'm thinkign that should satisfy our home inspector.  I also have a guy coming to the house next week to give us a quote for an alarm system so we are definitely on our way to having one safe house.  Tonight I'll go around and do the general babyproofing of outlet caps, ect.  The whole thing still kinda boggles my mind - just a year ago my life was in such a different place, its amazing.

  • Wow, lots of big updates! Congrats to all sperm-owners and donor-pickers. Smile  Very exciting times.

Not too much to report here... I think my period is wrapping up, so now I just have to wait to ovulate. So hopefully in less then two weeks we'll be making a baby. Lol!

  • Trying to do something to keep my mind off of testing until Sunday. Crossing all fingers and toes. Everyone seems to be starting the process I wish you all good luck.
  • We had our follicle check appointment this morning. Sylvia was incredibly sweet and went with me. She wrote down all the info as the nurse was looking at the ultrasound, which was a great help. (And she wrote a little love note at the top of the notebook page, which was fun to find. Smile)

I have one mature follicle (18 mm) and several that are not mature. I just got the call from the RE's office regarding my bloodwork, and they are delaying my trigger shot for a couple of days to let the mature one get bigger. So we go in again Friday for another ultrasound/ bloodwork/ possible trigger appointment. If they trigger me Friday morning (at 8 am or so), then they'll have us come back at 10 am on Saturday for the IUI. That seems a little early to me, especially since we're using frozen sperm, but for the moment I am trying to trust the RE and their standard protocol and just go with the flow. (Easier said than done!)

Thinking that we'd need sperm tomorrow morning, I spent all of this morning running around like a madwoman to make sure the REs office had our sperm in time (we were all set to have it couriered, but at the last minute the bank said they wouldn't guarantee an on-time arrival if we used their courier-- ugh). It took me over 2 hours to go from the RE's office to the sperm bank and back to the RE's, which meant I didn't get to work till almost noon (double ugh!). Not exactly the way I had envisioned this morning going, but a good extra round of practice in "going with the flow."

  • We are at 25 days to go. It is scary how fast time is flying by. All the docs that work in my ER are convinced I am going to go early. I have an OB appointment at 7pm tonight so it will be interesting to see what he has to say. I have started swelling really bad in my hands and legs, so I am kind of hoping that he says I can leave work a week earlier than I had planned. We still dont have the nursery done and I have nothing washed or ready to go so I am feeling really behind the eight ball.

Congrats to everyone who has made their donor decision.... its a big relief.

Good luck to those in the wait.
