Travelling to San Diego questions
Hi everyone! Sorry if any of these questions are common. DH & I are headed to San Diego in November with a group of friends for the Eagles/Chargers game. We're hoping to fly in Wed. morning & leave Monday afternoon/evening. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for where to stay (we're hoping to be walking/easy driving distance to restaurants/bars), things to do (is the zoo or LegoLand worth it?), etc.?
Two other questions:
- DH is hoping to surf...anyone know how the surf usually is in Nov.? Should he pack his wetsuit?
- My brother is thinking of renting a car....would it be more practical just to use public transit, taxis, etc.?

Hotel Circle in Mission Valley is pretty central to everything (and close to Jack Murphy Stadium for that Charger game!) so you might find something there. I just googled "San Diego Hotel Circle" and a bunch of listings came up. There are also lots of hotels in downtown San Diego (googling San Diego Gaslamp hotels should get you started) and some on Shelter Island. Gaslamp will probably be pricy but good if you want to be in walking distance to lots of restaurants and bars.
I'm not a surfer so I'm no help with that one
It's probably not a bad idea to just rent a car. San Diego isn't exactly known for it's efficient public transit
I know there is trolley service to the stadium, Old Town (def. worth checking out) and you could use the bus to get to Balboa Park or downtown.
Legoland is up in North County so it's quite a long way from the stadium area/the other places I've mentioned. I haven't been to Legoland since it first opened (I did a March of Dimes or something walk up there) and thought it would be good for people with children but not really for just a couple. That was 10 years ago, though, so it may have changed!
The Zoo is worth it but I'd also highly recommend the Wild Animal Park. The WAP is up in Escondido (also in North County) but it's worth the drive. Plus, there is a winery on the way
Other things to do:
*Balboa Park (near the Zoo/not far from downtown) - loads of great museums
*Old Town
*Drive over to Coronado and check out the Hotel Del (I think it was the first wooden building to be built in San Diego.. something like that! Either way, it's a treasure)
I don't know why I'm pulling a blank on things to do around here!
