Poll: What was the first real food your DC had?

We got the go ahead to try real food (stage 1 of course) with Gabe.  I bought pears last night since he likes pear juice and he seems to enjoy them.  What was the first real food your DC tried?  I noticed there were not many options for stage 1 but it sure beats formula all the time.[Poll]

Re: Poll: What was the first real food your DC had?

  • Other = sweet potatoes.
  • Other.  E.'s first food was sweet potatoes and she loved them!

  • Sweet potatoes!  We're actually going to have some now.
  • FWIW, it's super super easy and inexpensive to make your own baby food. No preservatives, all natural, and fresh.  My friend told me she did it and I admit I thought it was too "Martha Stewart" for me but I promise, it's easy!

You can mash up a banana or avocado w/o cooking them.  Add a bit of formula/milk if it's too thick.  Sweet potatoes are easy too.  Cook three of them in the oven, puree them in a food processor, and freeze them in individual servings in ice cube trays.  You'll have about 30 servings of sweet potato and you won't need to buy any jars of food. I did different fruits and veggies using the same method. When the baby gets older, you can just puree whatever you're having for dinner and freeze the extra.

There was a great website for homemade baby food but I deleted my bookmark. :(  I'm sure a google search could find it.

  • Other was green beans...my DS loved them....
  • I never thought of starting with sweet potatoes.  Probably because I don't like them myself.  Guess I have to make sure I keep an open mind that he might like something different than I do.
