Please Help Me Eat Veggies

They are turning me off right now. The only way I can think of that I'd eat them is in some sort of casserole.....like the zucchini stuffing that Boston Market has. I have lots of salad at home but can't stomach to get it out (sucks, right?). And I don't like cooked carrots.......

Can you help me? I've been living on grilled cheese, cereal and mac n cheese. Although mashed potatoes and turkey sounds good about now. Good God I can't wait til the nausea subsides.

Re: Please Help Me Eat Veggies

  • sorry you feel crappy. How about raw carrots and other veggies with a ranch dip, I don't know if that's any better, but when I have dip, I can eat a pound of veggies. I've been drinking alot of those Bolthouse and Naked drinks, the green ones, they're packed with fruits and veggies. Spinach on pizza is also yummy. Good luck, try and get those veggies, a preggo woman cannot live on grilled cheese alone, I tried that last week ;)
  • Steamed, cheese covered broccoli, pb with celery,
  • I wish I could help you, but I am so not a veggie person :( I wasn't before, much less now...that's the last thing that sounds appealing to me.

But Lily's idea is great. I could eat about a pound of celery if I had something yummy to dip it with :) And Yocy's idea of smothering broccoli in cheese is good too! HAHA.

  • My secret is either homemade veggie soup (tomato based to go with your grilled cheese sandwiches) or veggie fried rice. Also, you can add fresh spinach to just about any dish from pizza, to pasta, to soups.  I personally like humus with raw veggies instead of ranch dip. It's a bit healthier.  Hope this helps and good luck.
  • Have you heard of the veggie steamer bags from Green Giant? I always have a couple of bags in my freezer. You just pop one into the microwave for about 7 minutes and voila. They have some that are mixed veggies with cheese or brown rice. They are really good.

  • Don't feel bad if you can't eat some of your veggies.  I had the worst appetite my first trimester and I lived off of cereal and baked potatoes because it was the only thing I could keep down.  I asked the doctor and she said it was fine.  I happen to disagree with the raw veggie suggestion only because it is harder for your body to digest raw veggies instead of cooked ones.  I would steam them really well and maybe even mash them up and mix them in with potatoes or something like that to make it easier to have some.

  • check the campbells website for casserole dishes... and also try www.foodnetwork.com or www.allrecipes.com for idea... you can do a vegetable specific search :) HTH!!!
  • Thanks for the tips. I made tri-colored rotini and hid some red peppers and broccoli in the marina sauce. I ate a good serving. Normally, I am a veggie lover, but I'm just not into them right now. Hummus sounds good, Claire. I think I'll pick up some for lunch.

  • Listen...my dr calls the 1st tri survival mode.  you just need to eat.  yes, eat as much veggies as you can but if you can't stomach it then w/e its understandable.

i def keep peanut butter and ranch dressing available for raw veggies.  for some reason (i'm a weirdo) i love celery w/peanut butter.  sooooo yummy.  melting cheese (like yocy suggested) on broccoli is good too.  and just try to have veggie soups.  those are yummy w/grilled cheese.

  • oh, reading mrs_rod's post reminded me... V8 has these delicious soups that are packed with nutrients... you might want to see if those are appetizing to you... i've never been pregnant, but i've heard the key is a lot of folic acid... maybe some of the preggos know more about this... beans have a lot of folic acid. broccoli is great! what does your doc say about frozen stuff? i think the jolly green giant (or one of those) have these steam fresh veggie packs that are like broccoli and cheese, or a potatoe thing... not very descriptive, i know... but i guess at this point, get lost in the grocery store, and see what catches your eye :)
