Gift for a new mom?

One of my closest friends had a baby (boy) about two month ago.  I am going to visit them for the first time this weekend.  I did get them a shower gift, but I would also like to bring a little something for them.  I don't have kids myself so I'm wondering what would be needed/appreciated.  The baby was a surprise so I'm thinking maybe something blue since they probably have a lot of greens/yellows?

Any suggestions would be great!  Thanks!

A boy outfit is a good idea, but get a bigger size like 6-12 mos. I had a surprise baby as well and I got tons of yellows/greens in newborn-6 mos. Make sure it is the right season as well.

I think that's a great idea.  We also waited to find out the sex and I was dying for some pink clothing.  I think Hanna Andersson's boy sale is still going on.  Their pjs are the best.

Some food?

I like to freeze meals (lasagna, chicken dishes, etc)

Gives them more time to spend with baby and less in the kitchen

I normally bring food too. Lasagna or any pasta is easy. You could also do the rice and chicken dish, I think it's on the back of the soup mix can. I've made these for numerous new moms and they generally seem to like the fact they don't have to cook.

I also think that food is a good idea. I loved being able to just throw something into the oven without having to take the time to prepare it.
