Good Morning lady's

Hey yall I was wondering if anyone watches Oprah? I have been watching her a lot lately and she had a great show yesterday about recycling. I saw that a couple of you were talking about this yesterday since it was earth day. Well on the show Oprah pointed out the LARGE garbage swell in the Pacific Ocean the size of Texas, that stretches from Cali to Japan and in some places 90 ft deep.WOW! Thats a lot of trash coming from our lakes, streams and rivers.

Marine animals are mistaking plastic as food and getting caught in nets, plastic rings and etc... She also said that there is a garbage swell in each ocean but that one is the largest. So sad!

Okay so my point to all of this is. I think we all need to make a difference. Recycle, pick up trash off the ground when you see it and STOP using plastic bags. Thats a big one.

Sorry this got so long. Last thing. Oprah.com is having a sale and give free things, ie reusable bags, snack bags etc..

No problem, I have to DVR it too.  All this info really inspired me to want to do more. its a great episode.

  • Hola. I didn't see Oprah, but I can totally agree about the importance of recycling.  My parents don't b/c they say its not hygenical.  ::sigh::  I need to get my sisters involved on transforming them.

When we moved into the house, we didn't have those recycling container bins... and when I went to request them from the city, they told me they weren't distributing them anymore b/c they were changing to the large cans.  Then I got my large can, and every 2 wks, that thing is filled!  Like I mentioned before, I have a can in my garage to facilitate the sorting.  And when I have a lot, and don't want to be walking in and out of the garage, I keep a small Publix bag near the counter so I can dispose in there and take one trip.  It has really worked out for us... and I even have Dh engaged!

My next goal is to buy the reusuable grocery bags.  I figure, if I buy one eveyr time I go to the market, I won't feel the cost, and I'm helping out... plus, I have so many Publix plastic bags, i dont' know what to do w/ them anymore!

  • Reduce.  Reuse. Recycle. :) Thanks for the reminder on being green.

I watched Jon & Kate + 8 last night and it was the re-run when Sara Snow came to help them eat and clean organically. I'm not sure about buying organic meats just yet, but we should probably think about.

I just wish we had more farms and farmer's markets down here. In Jersey, many of us just plant our own gardens and harvest fresh strawberries, tomatoes, peas, green beans and squash all summer long. I miss that.

I have a ton of publix bags too, I also put my cans and things from the house in one and then take it outside. I just put some of the extra bags in with that stuff and send them with the recycle. That way I don't have a bunch of bags and they are getting recycled. I'm going to start getting the reusable bags too.

Dh doesn't clean up after himself so I am the one putting things in the trash/ recycle so I guess he does do his part by not putting it in the wrong spot. lol

  • Good Morning!!!

DH is so green and I am actually getting better and becoming more green as well.  We usually go to the recycling drop of place in sunrise when we have big boxes and in our neighborhood they pick up the recyling containers every tuesday.  I have the publix and whole food bags, and it does help!

I do this as well.  It help cuts cost, and they fit right into those little trash bags.  Also publix collects there plastic bags.  They have these big  bins by the registers so you can recycle your grocery bags.
