Furniture in Columbia

Hi!  My husband and I are Greenville natives but are currently in Columbia.  Long story short, he has the world's most hideous dresser that he inherited from his parents (they used it in grad school 30 years ago to give you some perspective) and I have GOT to get it out of my house.  Any suggestions for cheap but nice furniture in Columbia?  I've been keeping an eye on craigslist but so far, they don't have anything.

Re: Furniture in Columbia

  • If you just need a dresser, do you have a store like Big Lots where you could look?  We've bought some furniture from rooms to go and have been pretty happy with it and it's very inexpensive.  I'm sorry I don't know of any places specifically in Columbia though.  If you're up for a day trip you could go up to Hickory, NC.  I'm guessing it'd be 2.5-3 hours or so from you?

  • Oh also I don't know how nice of furniture you're wanting, but I just bought an Armoire from Walmart.com for under $100 including shipping and I was pleasantly pleased with the quality.  I mean I wasn't expecting much at all, and well, what I got was a bit better than I expected.

  • Thanks.  I have a walnut antique dresser that I was trying to approximate in terms of color, anyway.  I'll definitely check around places like Big Lots, Walmart and Target.  It definitely couldn't get much worse than the one he has.  I didn't know that you could stain things Clemson orange, but that's about what shade it is.

    Wow that's really unfortunate!

Is the piece of furniture decent otherwise?  Perhaps you could paint it or restain it?

  • Yeah, I toyed with the idea of painting it a while back.  I wanted something a little more formal for our bedroom but it's looking like that might be my only option for the time being.
