Poll: If you work/have worked in Stamford...

If you didn't live in the immediate area (Norwalk, Stamford, Greenwich, New Canaan)

1. What town do you live in/did you live in at the time?

2. Do you drive/take the train?

3. How bearable is the commute?

4. Do you work normal 9-5 ish hours?

Thanks!

Re: Poll: If you work/have worked in Stamford...

  • Although my office is in Stamford, I'm rarely there - usually work from my clients offices.

I live in Waterbury - when I go to Stamford I drive - it's a horrible commute - usually takes 1.5-2 hours and I typically work normal 9-5ish hours.

    I live in Stamford

My commute is 8 minutes door to door

Very bearable.  Sometimes, I wake up at 7:30am and get into the office at 8:15.  It's great.

It depends on my projects.  I try to get in betwee 8-8:15am and leave whenever.  Usually at 5:30 or sometime after.  totally depends.

    Thanks!

  • 1.  Meriden.  Have the whole time (since I started working here in May 05)

    2.  Both, but drive 75% of the time b/c of schedule.

    3.  Once you get used to it, it's OK.  It's a bit of "you do what you have to do" situation.  On days it rains, horrifyingly bad.  If there were more trains more frequently (see #2/4), it would be much more bearable.

    4.  Sort of.  Until the beginning of this year, I was coming in normal time in AM, but as a lawyer, I don't leave anywhere near 5.  B/c of DS and how DH & I split our parenting duties, I'm not on normal commute hours.

And I'll add:  5. Would I recommend this commute to anyone?  No way.

  • 1. What town do you live in/did you live in at the time? Fairfield

    2. Do you drive/take the train? Drove

    3. How bearable is the commute? It wasn't bad....but I made my own hours and avoided the terrible traffic.  DH commutes to Westchester now, and it usually takes him about an hour.

    4. Do you work normal 9-5 ish hours? Not really....I'd leave my house at 6:30 or 7 and come home around3:30 or 4.

  • 1. What town do you live in/did you live in at the time? We live in Stratford. (22 miles)

    2. Do you drive/take the train? I drive. My office is on the outskirts of Stamford, so Im not very close to the train station.

    3. How bearable is the commute? It's more bearable now than it used to be. When I first started in 2004, there was extensive construction on 95 in the Bridgeport/Fairfield area and it was horrendous. It sometimes took me an hour and 45 minutes. Now I average about an hour each way. On great days, I can be to work in 20-30 minutes. On horrible days it can still be up to an hour and a half.

    4. Do you work normal 9-5 ish hours? 8:30 to 5:30. I have been leaving around 7:30 and making it to work on time. I get home between 6:15 and 6:45.

It's possible that I am just very used to it by now, unless there is an accident or something I can handle it. But, I'd never work down there if I had kids, I wouldn't tolerate the commute then.

  • 1. I currently live in Stamford but I have also done the commute to Stamford from White Plains

    2. I drove/still drive

    3. Both are very bearable. From White Plains it is about 35 minutes maybe less from Stamford about 15 from the time I leave, drop DH off at the train station and then loop back through downtown stamford to my office. Also lately the crane at the Trump building has been delaying traffic quite a bit.

    4. Pretty much

  • 1. Bridgeport

    2. Drove

    3. Did it for some summers/school breaks and hated every minute of it. It was a job I had during college and it paid really well, that's the only reason I did the commute.

    4. I worked from 8:30 - 5.
