Poll: Where do you go to get your car oil changed?

I used to go to Wal-Mart, because they are cheaper and no hassle. However it is an extremely long wait, and too tempting to shop while I wait. I just got my oil change and tire rotation at Jiffy Lube and they charged me $60 and they had the nerve to try to sell me a air filter and windshield wipers that were JUST replaced! I am thinking about going to Wal-Mart the next time...

Re: Poll: Where do you go to get your car oil changed?

  • Here's my life story:

Used to get it changed at walmart, because as a teen, that was the cheapest place I could ahve it done...plus they vacumed out my floors of my car when they did it.  Then, one day one guy made a comment about me putting oil in my car myself and i'm a girl and I should have a guy do it.  My car was OLD, had over 200,000 miles on it, and leaked oil or burned oil off or something like that. SO every weekend I checked my oil and added oil -- that's what the mechanic had recommended I do. SO, i was pretty frustrated with Walmart's idiot,  so I stopped going there.

Started going to Jiffy Lube, right in the early morning to get their early bird special. I went there for years...until, the guy forgot to put my CAP on my oil thingy (don't they change from underneath?!  Anyway, completly destroyed the inside of my car with oil everywhere.   Stopped going there.

At this point, I bought a new car, and they changed oil at the dealership - and it was actually cheaper than jiffy lube, PLUS I got a free car wash each time...so I've had my oil changed at the honda dealership off lindberg for a few years now :)  I've been VERY HAPPY with my customer service, the time it takes them to complete it and the price!!!

  • Thanks for the advice Crash. My H takes his to the dealership, but my car was bought in Springfield, MO. So I can't take it to the dealership I bought it from. NoSad

I go to the dealership. They have a punch card so every 4 oil changes is free and it's only like $25.00. Everytime I go to a Valvoline they say "Oh your air filter needs changed." Yeah, those are like $3.00 from the auto parts store. NEVER get anything extra from the oil change place. Seriously, google how to change an air filter, it's a piece of cake.

That's what I do, I get a card punched...and they're friendly and fast.   Yeah, I got used to saying no I don't need X, Y and Z to jiffy lube or walmart.

  • I take it to the dealership. You don't have to go to the same dealership location that you bought it from. If it's a Ford(just an example) then take to any Ford dealership. I did go to wal-mart to get my blinker light changed. It was only $3. They did a great job.?
  • I don't know what area of town you live in, but I always used to take our cars to Danmark Tire Center in Florissant. We could get a tire rotation AND oil change for $25!! We finally quit going there recently because we live in O'Fallon now. We kept driving out there for awhile but then decided it wasn't worth it to save just a few bucks from what we can pay out here (with a coupon, anyway). But we were always very satisfied with their service!

Hey neighbor, I live in O'Fallon as well! Big Smile

Ditto PP who said you can take your (Ford) car to whatever dealership is local. I can even take my Ford to a Lincoln/Mercury dealer.

If you need a light changed buy the part at an auto store and they (used to anyway) replace the light for you for free. Same with windshield wipers. It's best to go in when they don't look busy because the clerk will have time to help.

Also, if use have a Midas nearby, they always have coupons both in the paper and online.

    Good to know, thanks. Yes
  • We go to Walmart but I think we might start going to the Saturn dealership. I just got a "Economy" oil change at Walmart and it cost $31. Hmmmm.

I think that's about the same price as Saturn!

WOW, $31?! Their prices must have gone up. I think I will take mine to a Jeep dealer that has the punch card service the next time.
  • We used to get ours changed at Walmart, but they broke my hood release lever and didn't tell me, so when my husband went to change it in 3,000 miles he couldn't pop the hood.  I had to go back and argue with a bunch of managers and take it in to get repaired (a surprising $250) but they did eventually reimburse me for the damage.  Still, I don't shop at Walmart anymore because of how the men in the automotive department treated me when I went in to complain.

Now we own a Prius and my husband is too scared to touch the engine so we get our oil changes done at the dealership.  I like it... their waiting room has free wi-fi and they are very professional and courteous.

  • i take mine to Dobbs. ?they normally run a 2 for 1 deal and it's like $27 full price or something like that. ?so, that's not bad. ?if they're not running the deal, they normally have $7 coupons floating around that will drop it down to the low $20's. ?The dealership normally makes me wait to long, but sometimes i'll take it there too if i need a tire rotation or something. ?it's pretty far away though and dobbs is across the street.

  • If you are anywhere near South County, I would recommend Gravois Auto Repair.  They have a location at Gravois and Tesson Ferry and a newer one at Tesson Ferry and Musick.  It only costs $12.99!  I have never had a problem with any mechanic and have been going there for years.  The women at the front desk are never particularly pleasent, but they get the job done.
