Mom's...is this true?

I just got my weekly update from babycenter.com and I'm reading about m/s.

"You're more likely to have nausea or vomiting during your pregnancy if any of the following apply:

You're carrying a girl. One study found that women with severe nausea and vomiting were 50 percent more likely to be carrying a girl. "

That just seems unlikely...though my bff had horrific m/s and had a girl.  But another friend had horrfic m/s and had a boy.

Interesting.

Re: Mom's...is this true?

  • I'm interested in the answer to this.
  • Personally I think all that gobbledegook is hogwash.  I wouldn't trust any of it.  My SIL had minimal ms with with both kids, one was a girl, one was a boy.

  • I had pretty decent morning sickness and had a boy.  I think just about anything can be proven with statistics.
  • Not true... I had WICKED m/s and I had two boys. My friend had girls and was fine.
  • I had all day sickness and I had a boy. I really think it depends on your body and not on the gender of the baby.
  • Have you been getting m/s?  How are you feeling my dear?
  • I personally don't believe it, but I will say that I had no morning sickness at all, and I had a boy.
  • I had absolutely no morning sickness and I had a girl!  I think it depends on the person.
  • I have a friend who was terribly ill with her boy & not so much with her girl.
  • I did a search and found an article about ONE study that found a slight difference in the proportion of women experiencing hyperemesis who gave birth to girls. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/556895.stm

Not enough of a difference to make bets on. Plus, these were women with severe nausea and vomiting, not just run-of-the-mill morning sickness.

  • I had no morning sickness and had a girl - and I can tell you the same story for at least 10 people I know with girls.  I have stories to tell on both sides of it - terrible m/s and having a girl and terrible m/s and having a boy. . .and the same goes with no m/s.  You just never know!
  • Not true for me. I didn't get sick at all or experience any nausea and I had a girl.
  • I was sick for 7 months.  I had a girl. Big Smile
  • I had very little M/S and had a girl.  One of my closest friends was sick for her ENTIRE pregnancy and had a girl.  I don't think it means anything one way or the other.
  • I thought it was hogwash, it just doesn't seem very scientific.

And Cory, so far I had 2 weeks where it was bad, no puking though, then it went away, and now its here like every other day.  Not so bad compared to what my friends have gone through though.

  • I was very sick till 15 weeks, and I'm having a girl.  Everyone thought I was having a girl because I was so sick.  However, I have friends that were just as sick as I was and they have boys.  I really think it depends on how your body reacts to being pregnant.
  • Well I didnt throw up once and I have a boy, I did feel a little uneasy though if I didnt eat a little something every hour or so.

  • I didn't have any morning sickness. I felt queasy for a week and that was it.
  • I dont know if it is true but I had no nausea and I have a girl.
  • This was not true for me, I didn't have more than 2 weeks or so, and only vomited 2 times (and one time I think was from the vitamins i was on), but I have heard that the hormones from a girl cause this, so I have heard this to be the case.  One reason we thought Lexi was a boy for sure!

  • I had very little morning sickness and I had a girl.
  • Negative.

Between me and my sisters there are currently 4 kids (3 boys and 1 girl) we all had bad m/s with our boys.  My sister who had the girl had no m/s at all and is actually PG again and has no m/s again and is convinced it's a girl.  we'll see!

  • I only had m/s with Arianna. and Isabella is 100% a girl Big Smile
  • I'm not sure.  I had absolutely no m/s and had a boy.  My SIL has had minimal m/s and we believe she is carrying a girl (won't know until delivery...it's a surprise).
  • I really think it depends on the person.  I had m/s for 8 weeks with my first pregnancy (girl).  I've had barely any at all with the pregnancy (boy).
  • I'm not sure if it's true but I had 0% sickness and had a boy.  Same with a friend of mine who just had a boy.
  • I was lucky enough to not get too much m/s...and both were boys.  But I know plenty of people who had girls and had no m/s at all, and plenty who've had boys and been sick as a dog for months.
