Before you bought your house did you check the CT sex offender website???
I was talking to a friend the other day about this and before we bought our house we did not check this website...it wasn't even a thought that I had. Now that I am a mother I think that when we move I will definitely look at this site.
If you were to move, would you check out the website and if there was an offender on the street would you still buy the house??
Re: Before you bought your house did you check the CT sex offender website???
I checked the other day but only because I got a fwd from a friend about it. Otherwise I would not have thought of it.
If there was an offender on the same street it would really make me think twice about the house.
Yes, I checked. In my apartment I lived in prior to moving I knew that th neighbor across the street was a sex offender. Since he was within 50 feet of a school and hadn't confirmed his address, I helped out a bit. :P Then I moved.
We did not when we bought our current home. We're not in the best neighborhood, and I dont want to know. I know DH has checked since we've been here, but I told him not to tell me.
The next time we move, I'll definitely check. I'll hopefully have children while in our next home and I that will be important to me. I think I would forgo a house if there were someone registered in the area.
It's sad that we have to think about these things.
No I did not check and when I move I don't know that I would make a concerted effort to check it either. Although, on Halloween last year I did check and I found that there is one offender living in a condo complex near me and two others in town.
I did, luckily there weren't any on our street. I probably would have still bought it though since it's a starter home and we will probably upgrade in 5/6 years.

I checked the site before we bought our house. I don't think we would have bought the house if there was an offender nearby. It's just not worth the risk.
A couple of months ago when we started looking at houses we were looking at one in Southbury. We took a look at it then drove down the road and were stopped at a stop sign. While we were sitting there DH and I were looking at the house in front of us and thinking "this house looks really familiar" "Why?" It took a few seconds but we figured out that that was the house that was on the news because the serial rapist who was released from prison but put on house arrest lived there (remember that was a huge story not too long ago). I honestly went back and forth on my feelings of the whole thing. Luckily we found a different much better house and didn't have to try and decide.
I used www.familywatchdog.us
We checked our town, street, all surrounding towns and their neighborhoods and ruled out places before we even looked.
My DH is a cop, though. So it's kind of close to home for him.
We didn't.
For a future home, I would probably check if I remembered and it would completely depend on the type of offense actually (i.e. someone convicted at 19 for having sex with his 16/17 y.o. girlfriend would be different than a pedophile IMHO.)
I did and there's one a few streets over. I will say though, that I know from personal experience that there are people who are convicted of sexually based crimes who are not registered sex offenders.
So, I take the list for what it is. Is someone registered on my street? No. Does that mean that no one on my street has been convicted of a sexual crime? No.
