Hi. How are you feeling?! Is it just me or does your pregnancy seem to be going so quickly?
I saw your post about maternity leave. Good for you for taking the entire year off. It will be so nice to spend that time with your baby. Not to mention it can be a nightmare getting back into your class - depending on your sub.
I am so jealous that you are allowed to take 6 weeks of your accured sick time after the initial 6 weeks paid. Is the initial 6 weeks from sick time too?
In Bristol, after 6 weeks it is unpaid and you have to pay something for insurance. It stinks because the first 6 weeks really aren't paid - they are just sick days that you have accumulated. If you don't have that many days, then you don't get it. So really we get no real "paid" leave.
Hope all is well!

Hi Alyssa!!
So funny because I just posted about how much I feel like I'm missing these days because I never make it off the first page, and how hard it must be to page someone--I hit post, and I see your page to me!! Honestly though, if I wasn't online, I don't think I ever would have seen your message to me!
I'm doing good though, thanks for asking!! It does seem like my pregnancy is going by quickly to me too, I can't believe I'm going to be 15 weeks tomorrow already!! We find out the sex on May 1st so I'm really hoping that the next two weeks go by quickly too, because we really can't wait for that! (Athough I don't want spring break to end next week either, so I guess I don't want it to go by that quickly!) Were you on break this week? What a nice week, huh?! I hope next week is just as nice...fingers crossed!
Anyways, as far as maternity leave goes for me, it was no question about taking the whole year off. Like you said, it can be a nightmare to go back into a classroom where there has been a sub, and honestly, I didn't want to deal with that at all. But it was also really important to me to be able to spend that first year with the baby too, so I'm really glad I'm going to be doing it. We are given 12 weeks for our maternity leave. 6 of those weeks are our sick time too, the other 6 is from the district. I will lose my insurance after those 12 weeks if I don't pay for the Cobra (which we aren't going to--we'll just enroll in my DH's insurance through his company for January-September). It's going to be really weird not to work though. I'm pretty sure I'll be heading back to my current position the following school year though, so that also makes me feel pretty good about taking the year off. I have already looked into the numbers of the upcoming students for the next two years, and I'll be "safe" so I'm really happy about that. That was really important to me because I didn't want to have to switch grades or schools.
I'm going to Williamsburg with the 7th grade for a week in May, so I'm really hoping that I'm going to be able to deal with that!! I'll be exhausted those nights, I'm sure, but I've always wanted to go with them, and I figured this is my last chance. I'm sure it'll be a good time.
So--how are you doing? I can't believe that we're heading into May already and the end of the school year is so close by!! It makes me so excited for summer!! Do you work in the summer??
Hope all is well with you too!!! Thanks for checking in!!!
LOL Grace!! I still feel like I just kinda look fat, but I'll be sure to post one in the next couple weeks. The belly is starting to feel hard, and that doesn't seem like it's just fat-looking anymore!
Hope you're doing well, and good luck with those windows tomorrow!!
Wow! Your district is great with maternity leave. I haven't heard of any other districts in the state doing that. Lucky you!
My colleague was out on maternity leave until mid February. They had such an awful sub in her room. It was a disaster - seriously. What is sad is that the administration watched it happen. She is still dealing with putting things back together -but for some kids the changes have been too much. It's pushed a couple over the edge.
My year is going well. I was spoiled for a few months with a student teacher. It worked out really well and it was nice to have some down time during the day. I have one student that is going through some awful things at home and as a result he's acting out in school. It's pretty bad. In fact he was suspended today and tomorrow. A six-year old suspended. And we don't just suspend anyone at my school. My principal jokes that if it wasn't for the first graders he would have no problems at school. It's true!
I'm off next week too. It seems like most schools were off this week - and they did have a great week! We're not going anywhere but we have a bunch of little day trips planned. I can't wait!
Have a good night!
Grace - lol
I had to read this twice because I thought it said "Alyssa I also meant to ask you where are the belly pics?"
I couldn't understand why you wanted pics of my belly Grace!
Yes Jen, we want to see your belly pics!
