What did you do with your wedding dress?

Hi Girls,

I am getting married in the fall. I think I want to try to sell my dress after the wedding. What did you do with your dress, sell it or save it? Thanks!?

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?

  • I got married four years ago this May.  I preserved my dress and put into a box, it's in my cedar closet downstairs.... I'm VERY tempted to donate it...but really haven't gotten around to doing that quite yet.

I don't know too many people who've had luck selling dresses because of all the alterations and such...but if you can, i'd try posting on message boards, craigslist, etc.

    Good luck!

  • I had it cleaned and it is hanging in the dress bag in the closet. I keep forgetting to get it preserved and boxed. Originally I was going to save it and have a baby dress made for my future daughter out of the diamond white duchess satin from the dress. If I don't have a girl, well then I dunno. I probably could try to sell it or donate it, I just can't bring myself to do it. ***Confession*** occasionally I still put it on. Embarrassed
  • I would love to sell mine, but haven't gotten around to doing anything with it.  It's still hanging in the bag in the basement.
  • I actually just posted mine on Craig's List and have someone coming to look at it tomorrow. DH isn't too happy but I told him I will never wear it again, doubt a future DD would want to wear it and it's $$$!
  • I'm going to save mine.  I doubt styles will be the same in 30 or so years when my future children are getting married, but I'm going to keep it in case they want to use any of it to help make their own dresses.  The fabric is gorgeous and could easily be reused.

Plus, my mom had saved her dress from when she married my dad (ended up in a divorce, but she still lugged it around from house to house all scrunched up in a trash bag-and no, I didn't feel like the divorce jinxed it) and I ended up using the lace from the bottom of her dress and stitching it onto the bottom of my veil for a beautiful family heirloom that ended up being my absolute favorite part of my wedding ensemble.

If my future kids could scavenge anything from my dress to save them $$ or for sentimental reasons I'd want to have that available to them.

  • good ideas, Ma Ra.... I've also preserved mine and am hanging on to it. ?I doubt a future daughter (if i have one) will want to wear it, but the material could be reused....i posted below, but a girlfriend of mine used the material from her wedding dress to make her daughter's baptism dress. i thought that was a great idea!
