Need a Little bit of Help

I am planning Our Annual Vacation for the week after the 4th of July & I have no idea where to go. I need some rec's that have nothing to do w/ the beach. DH hates the beach.

TIA

Re: Need a Little bit of Help

  • What about Orlando or Tampa or even the keys and do the touristy thing. A weekend cruse might even be fun.
  • I agree, Orlando or Tampa are good recommendations. I'm from Tampa and there is the Channelside area that will certainly have stuff going on for July 4th. Or you could go to an amusement park like Busch Gardens :)
  • Orlando & Tampa is kinda out of the question. We own a home in Orlando, so we are always up there.

  • St.Augustine?

    Georgia?

  • St. Agustine I am over it... Georgia we are going in June for a wedding. I need a vacation so bad.

  • I too was going to recommend St. Augustine.  It is very nice with lots to do, and (if you really like the beach), maybe you can con him into one day at the beach.  LOL

Does it have to be driving distance?  If not, if you guys like baseball, how about a trip to Chicago, Boston, NY.  They are all fun cities, with lots to do, and you can catch a game or two (didn't meal to rhythm).

How about Vegas?  Dh and I went in October and had the time of our lives!

  • It doesn't have to be driving distance. I was thiking of Chicago, I have never been there. What is there to do???

I would love to go back to Vegas because I absolutely loved it, though we went for our Honeymoon in December & we are planning on going back for New Years.

  • I've never been to Chicago, but had planned a whole trip there once!  LOL  There is a ton of things to do... prob 5 days worth.  Just from the top of my head, Navy Pier, Magnificent Mile, famous Chicago pizza LOL.

Another option if you are into history and meuseums, is DC.  That place is very nice with lots to do, and of course the history is amazing!

  • I love Washington DC, I think my DH would like it too since he is such a History Buff. Though Chicago has shopping as well & I love to do that. Hmmm... I think I am going to start researching Chicago ASAP!
  • I haven't been to Chicago yet (have a trip planned for August), but hear there are lots of things to do.  Since your DH is a history buff (like myself), I would highly recommend Washington, D.C. and Boston.  I had the best times there doing historical tours of the cities and hitting lots and lots of amazing museums.  I'm dying to go back to both.

If you are interested in doing more environmental things, I would recommend Portland, OR with day trips to the coast and to the mountains (Mt. St. Helens is amazing).  I spent over a week there with a friend and feel in love with the area.

Also - rock climbing in Colorado, wine tasting in Napa Valley, CA, Grand Canyon in Arizona, Red Wood Forest in northern CA, and coffee tasting in Seattle, WA.

Hope some of this helps ya!

  • Claire Your awesome... I too love me some wine. I have always wanted to go to Boston. Oh my, so many places to go and only 8 days to do them in.

Where to go where to go.

  • You are so welcome. I personally haven't done the wine tasting, but one of my best friends in Tally went with her husband and they loved it.  Let me know if you are interested in that particular trip and I'll put you in touch with her.
  • Napa is def on my list of places to go!  I've been dying to go.

Another option that I really want to go is Alaska!  I want to take an Alaskan cruise, and right now they are dirt cheap!

Yeah, an Alaskan cruise is definitely on my list of things to do in my lifetime.  It's also a great time of year to go.
