Kids and scarring question. . .

Ava's face looks like a war zone.  Some kid scratched her a couple of weeks ago and although the cut is gone, i can still see the line.  Then she scraped her chin outside yesterday and last night in her sleep she scratched her face (I am awful about cutting her nails - I hate doing it!  So afraid I'm going to hurt her!).  She's a mess!  My question is, can you use stuff like Mederma (sp?) or scar zone on them?  I've been using Aquaphor like they're going to stop making it.  Will these things scar?  Any experience with this?  What do you use on your DC's scrapes and cuts?

Re: Kids and scarring question. . .

  • I always use neosporin and things seem to fade pretty quickly. I can't comment on Mederma. But I think it has to be a pretty deep or aggravated cut to last. She has youth on her side, remember. Regenerating glowing skin every second...

  • We've used Neosporin.  DS' scratches usually fade pretty fast - I wish I had his skin!

  • JT had a pretty good cut on his cheek near his eye at the end of October. Still had a light scar by Christmas & by his birthday in March it is no longer noticeable.

They should fade away with time.

  • Thanks, ladies - as always - you calm me down.  Maybe I'll switch from Aquaphor to Neoporin.  Thanks!
  • I know nothing about children, but I always see an ad for Mederma for Kids on tv!
  • For all of the accidents I had as a kid, I only have 1 scar on my face - on my chin (from the 5 times I had to get stitches after cracking it open...did I mention I was a klutz?)

We are awful at cutting Will's nails too. So far all the scratches he's had have healed without leaving a mark.
