The Humingbirds are here ... (((echo)))

Time to put out your feeders. I love sitting on the back patio or sitting on my couch watching them. It's so relaxing, and they are so fascinating to watch! Each year we get more and more and they fight over the 2 feeders hanging from the window. Those of you that are looking for the perfect feeder, I have been through many bee guard feeders even the gla$$ ones that leak and attract bees. The best ones I found are at Wal-Mart, and absolutely NO bees/wasp will come around. They don't have it on their website, but it is this one Perky Pet Birdscapes Rose Petal Hummingbird Feeder.

To make the nectar/sugar water. You don't have to go out and buy the red nectar they sell. They get their nutrients from the insects they eat, so you are not doing them any disservice by not using the real nectar. I just mix 1/4 cup sugar and 1 cup HOT water until dissolved. I change it out weekly or as needed.

  • I would *LOVE* to have hummingbirds in my back yard, that would be so neat!! How long after you put the feeders out did they start to show up?

Do you ever take any pictures?

  • It doesn't take that long, especially if your neighbors have feeders out and a lot of trees around. They are attracted to the red. In fact one flew in our garage because of the little red string that hangs down from the garage door opener, so we removed it. It was so hard to get him out because he kept flying up and crashing into the ceiling and would not fly out. My H was oot so I had to have a neighbor come over with his ladder and pick him up. The poor lil guy was completely exhausted. Anyway, each year you will get more and more. My parents have about ten feeders in their backyard and also planted pear trees for them to perch in, so they have tons of hummingbirds. It is really cool, because they have the feeders hanging on their deck so they come really close, especially if you are wearing red. I have always had hummingbird feeders, even when I lived in my old apartments.

We have tried to taking pictures, but any sudden movements and they fly away. :c (

  • I like the Best One humingbird feeder. It was recommended to me at a science convention a few years ago and I have been using it ever since. It is bee/wasp proof.?
  • Is it this one? Is yours glass? I hang mine from suction cups on the windows and they have lost suction and fallen a couple times. That is why I like mine because it is also shatter proof. Lol.
