i am actually very concerned, not only because people travel on airplanes now everyday...but we are connected to mexico.
mexico has become increasingly dangerous this past year with the insane amount of violent murders from the gang wars...and now with the swine flu basically no one is going there. ?this is going to hurt mexico even more, because the tourist industry is going to go to hell. ?it will become increasingly violent there, and i believe more and more mexicans will try to jump the border.
this disease has in fact become deadly...yes we can treat it now but what happens if the disease mutates and becomes resistent to the drugs? ?swine flu is an easily spread disease and anyone is suseptible.
i just do not understand how so many people are not worried about this! ?i mean don't you remember how ignorant people were in the 80s when they said "well, i'm not gay- so i have no chance of catching AIDS"
ok....please friendly debate
?
Re: ok, so this is my feeling on swine flu...
I understand your concern, Shari. And believe me, when the CDC takes it seriously, I agree that that means something. My Masters degree is in Public Health, so I know a lot about these types of things. You'd actually be surprised at how prepared the city and Federal govt. are for a widespread outbreak. Since we do have meds and are on to of the situation (in our country), there is no need to be overly concerned.
My advice would be to use hand sanitizers, be aware of the symptoms, and live your life unafraid.
The point you make about AIDS is valid as well. However, that '80s-view of the disease was not ridiculous, but it was incorrect. We're fortunate, now, to have a good grasp on the situation and believe me, people are working around the clock to keep this country safe.
good to know
?especially knowing that you have your?Masters degree in Public Health! ?very impressive, eb629

Every disease has the potential to be drug resistant. It's better for the CDC to get involved as soon as possible before there are people dying. It doesn't worry me that they are getting involved mainly because it is their job to get involved and prevent a pandemic from occuring.
Conditions here are substantially better then those in Mexico. Just wash your hands before you eat, after you go to the bathroom, etc..
