sort of scary?

So I went to the doctor this morning to get a prescription refilled.  The physician's assistant had a medical mask with an eye splash guard on her face (actually since I was just there for a refill she had it on top of her head).  They had a sign on the door saying if you had upper respiratory symptoms you had to go straight to the desk.  This must be because they make you wear the mask/eye guard thing too.  When I was leaving some poor teenager in the face mask was being lead back to an exam room by the assistant with the face mask (she had it on this time).

I wasn't really worried about swine flu in my neck of the woods until this morning.  I was planning on stocking up on some extra food just in case, maybe I should get some of those face masks too.

Re: sort of scary?

  • This swine flu business has me freaked out the way it is just from seeing reports about it on the news and online...I think if I saw people in facemasks that would just put me over the edge!  We bought a pack of facemasks a few weeks ago when we started stripping paint and sanding the trim in our bathroom and I told DH yesterday to take it easy on using them because we may need them...he didn't think that was funny at all, but hey, you never know.  As of now I haven't heard of anyone in PA w/ the flu (correct me if I'm wrong), and I'm hoping it stays away!
  • I was telling my boss about this and she told me that the had a couple at the Philly airport with it, they were on their way home from Cancun.  So that may be our first case.
  • Funny, I just saw that report on the news...they said they're not confirmed to have "swine flu" but are being checked out.  This was at 12noon however, so maybe it has changed since then?  Still freaky!
  • It's definitely scary.  I have a client who is supposed to travel to Cancun at the end of this month and I have a Pilates student who just returned to class today after being in Mexico and Texas for a couple weeks and she has a respiratory infection.  I almost freaked it class but she said she's already been on drugs for her respiratory stuff.
  • If she has swine flu the drugs won't help with her being contagious or not because it is caused by virus.  I would wash everything she touched off with alcohol.
