Lake George

We want to go on vacation somewhere somewhat local this year... has anyone been to Lake George?  Any reccomendations of where to stay? Our girls are 2 1/2 and we want a centralized place where we don't need to drive too much after we get there.
Thanks!

Re: Lake George

  • DH grew up outside of LG and actually was a waiter at a family style restaurant called Grandma's (yummy food).  Any hotel right on the main street is easily within walking distance of everything.

  • Thanks! Have you heard of Fort William Henry?

  • DH and I met near Lake George and have gone back a few times.  I think the girls would love it!  Great family vacation spot.  I don't have any hotel recs, though, sorry.
  • There is the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge - it's got an indoor water park inside of it so you have something to do if the weather isn't agreeable.
  • Peeking at the answers as I've never been either. Dh would love to go sometime. Hope you have a nice vacation!
  • I love it up there. Me and my girl friend up and left one day and went up there for 5 days :)

We stayed at the Quality Inn right on the main street.

There is a Cave/stone bridges up a little from lake george which is fun.

The shops on the main stretch are amazing.

  • DH and I went in October for a night.  We stayed at the hotel right next door to Great Escape.  I can't remember the name of it but it's NOT the one owned by Great Escape.  It was a 10-15 minute drive into LG but pretty close to everything we wanted to get to.
