Furbaby help!

Hi All,

I don't post too often, but lurk frequently:)  Anyways, I'm hoping some local nesties can give me some guidance.  We just took our dog to the Animal Hospital of Polaris for a routine check-up and the bill was around $200 (without heartguard or frontline meds).  Bloodwork was done b/c she is older so I know that is part of it.

But also we had to schedule her for a tooth removal and that projected bill is $550 on the low end almost $1000 on the high end!

I am very happy with the people and service at AHP, but this also seems like pretty steep billing.

So my question is 1) is this normal and 2) if not please give me some good recommendations of other places to look at.......we'd be willing to travel to the other side of town or outside of the Columbus area (i.e. Pickerington, etc.) for a good vet with a good price.   TIA!

Re: Furbaby help!

  • We go to Dr, Gesel at the? Pickerington Animal Vet. He is great and really reasonable.?
  • That sounds awfully high -- definitely would be worth getting another price estimate or two. We go to Beechwold Veterinary Hospital in Clintonville, and having Charlie's teeth cleaned there (not the same thing, of course, but it did require anesthesia) it was about $250. http://www.beechwoldvet.vetsuite.com/

  • Bethel Animal Hospital did Kassie's teeth cleaning and with bloodwork and meds it was about $220, plus a $30 teeth cleaning kit.  They have been nice and seem like they do a great job.
  • That seems pretty steep for a teeth cleaning. We take *** to Swenson Vet Hospital on Kenny Rd (right off of Bethel). They quoted me $150 for teeth cleaning based on the dogs size, and *** is 95lbs.?
  • Ok I don't know why they felt the need to black out my dogs name...it's S U K A, not some dirty word! LMAO
  • We take both of are dogs to Polaris too. I agree with you about the prices. However, My husband works at the Columbus Zoo and the Vets there say it is one of the best in Columbus. I have a hard time parting with the money, but I know that there are no question about the service we are getting ( We have had vets that were not the greatest before). As for the tooth cleaning we are waiting for that one. It is about time for both our dogs to have it done. I know that they run a special sometime throughout the year.
