Hotel Gift Certificate?

Hey Guys,

DH and I were visiting one of our firends last night and realized what a bad time they are having with finances, and how stressed they are with everything (he lost his job and is doing temp jobs he hates, she is 5 months pregnant and works full time, and they have a 3 year old to take care of, too).  They don't communicate well (which is another long story) and it is really straining their marriage, but they still love eachother.  She was really upset that they would not be able to get away for their 5 year anniversary.

Anyway, DH and I were thinking of buying them a night stay at a hotel on the riverwalk as an anniversary gift--hopefully give them a chance for a breather.

Does anyone know a nice place that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?  Can I even do this?  I don't want to give them a certain amount (like $100 cert.).  I want to give them a night that they can use when they can get time off and a babysitter, so I can't just reserve a specific time for them.

Thanks!

Re: Hotel Gift Certificate?

  • That's very sweet of you to think of them?

Do you have a preference on location (Riverwalk/Outside SA etc)?

  • I think that they would really like something on the riverwalk.
  • It depends on how much you want to spend. I love the Westin Riverwalk. Hotel Contessa is very nice too. Of course, there's the new Grand Hyatt - I haven't seen their rooms, but heard its nice.

If you were able to run it by them, you could probably priceline a hotel on the RW. You can usually get a four star hotel downtown for around $100 on priceline.

  • Hotwire is also a great way to get an inexpensive hotel room. That's what we did for our hotel for the honeymoon. We saved a lot of money, but you'd need to run it by them first since it's non-refundable.
