Today's Question: WELCOME TO MAY!

OK Ladies, we all know the saying, April showers bring May Flowers.

So what sorts of May flowers are you expecting around your homes?   Do you you have annuals or perennials?  Anybody have a veggie garden?

We have some pansies out front, purple, yellow, and pink.  We also have a couple rose bushes around the sides that the previous owners left.  I know nothing about rose bushes, and we'll probably tear them out eventually as they look ugly mostof the time.

The spring has brought us a couple surprises.  There seem to be some perennials that were dormant when we bought the house that are in bloom now... Like we didn't even realize they existed, and then this spring they started growing and blossoming.  Just little flowerie plants.

We also planted a veggie garden.  Tomatos, green peppers, cucumbers, and watermellon!

Re: Today's Question: WELCOME TO MAY!

  • I'm afraid that my thumb isn't very green....  We have some azaleas that are blooming right now (the white ones have bloomed, purple are next), but I'm most excited about my hydrangea and snowball bushes that bloom all summer.
  • OOOH A hydrangea bush?  And it blooms all summer?  That sounds like something I need.

Does it take a lot of work?

  • Our little garden has lots of fun things--the previous owners spent a lot of time taking care of it, and we love spending time out there. We have tulips, roses, and azaleas and a bunch of flowers I can't identify (some I've never seen before anywhere else). There's also a Japanese Birch out there which is really pretty in the spring/summer. Last year Eric and I planted some veggies...peas, carrots and cucumbers, as well as herbs. This year my upstairs neighbors are taking care of the garden and have planted some veggies.

Nope.  Just water it if it gets droopy.   Believe me, if it took a lot of work, it wouldn't be alive.   They're called "never ending summer" hydrangeas and you can find them at most nursery's.  I was also pretty impressed with how fast it grew.

  • At home I have azelas (sp) and a couple of hanging potted plants. Also, some calla's on the back patio.

At my parents, they have 12 acres of land - last night we planted zuccini, squash, watermelon, canteloupe, tomatos, cucumbers and corn.

    Very excited!!

I so do not have a green thumb, but love to have nice flowers in front.  We have perennials and am embarrassed to say I have no idea what kind I just know they're pretty.  Pete and I got these last year, planted them and to my surprise they are coming back this year too.   I thought I killed them.    No plans to get anymore this year, plus I'm too lazy.   I swear if I were rich I'd hire a gardener.

  • My roses are blooming like crazy right now. To get more blooms add your spent tea bags or coffee grounds to your bushes. They are really nice once you get the hang of it.

I planted some lillies, daisies and some cosmos they are doing well.

I also have a veggie garden with 3 types of pepper, 3 types of tomatoes, onions and cantaloupe. My cucumber died. I also have mint, chives and basil going on. I love this time of year.

  • We just bought some annual flowers and planted them around the mailbox. Then we got some hanging baskets. Not a lot at the moment.

I want to plant an azalea bush too, but it's supposed to only get morning sun and I don't want to put flowers at the back of the house yet.

HEY I noticed the perennials.  I don't know what they're called either, but that's my mystery flower that has grown in our back yard from the previous owners.  I took notice the last time I saw them because they look exactly like what is growing in my back yard.

  • Since DH and I are renters, I'm not able to have either a flower or vegetable garden.  I can't wait to own a home so that I can try my hand at gardening.

I recently found out about vermicomposting and might try that this fall, so maybe I'll try to have some flowers or tomato plants :)

  • We haven't made it to the "outside" of the house yet.  All of our time has been spent on the inside.  I have a rose bush out side of our bedroom window.  I think they're "knock-out roses".  We have camilias, but they bloom in the winter.  Other than that, we have some very ugly boxwoods that need to be dug up.  Sadly, I just don't have that much time...Sad

  • We have roughly 10 azalea bush through out the yard in three different colors: pink, red and white. We also have a rose bush. There are two other flower bushes which a neighbor told me is in the rose family but I have no idea what they are called. The daffodils ended up blooming in February when the weather was being weird.

I need to look into getting a garden together. I do have some herbs growing. I don't know much about gardening but I am trying to learn.

  • Sadly...we have none.

We live in an apartment so no room for flowers.

Okay that's a pathetic excuse.  I kill anything that doesn't remind me that it needs to be nurtured.  I'm down to 2 fish out of about 14 that I used to have and a cat.
